Wolverines run at Market Relays

MANSON—The West Bend-Mallard Wolverine boys track team competed in the Emily Market Co-Ed Relays held on Thursday, April 17 and finished in 10th place overall with 12 team points.

The top purple-and-gold place winner was the 4 x 200-meter relay unit of Grady Goddard, Silas Bindel, Abner Zaugg and Leydan Grimm that crossed the finish line in fifth place in 1:42.44 and Grimm was sixth in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:02.91.

Garrigan sweeps tight conference match

LIVERMORE—Both the Bishop Garrigan boys and girls golf teams swept a tight Top of Iowa Conference held at the Spring Valley Golf Course on Tuesday, April 15.

The black-and-gold girls edged Garner-Hayfield/Ventura by just one stroke 207-208 while the Golden Bear boys also squeezed out a tight league victory with a team score of 182 as West Hancock was second with a 184 and Garner-Hayfield/Ventura placed third with a score of 188.

Jones, Henderson earn runner-up medals

LAKE MILLS—Two North Union golfers earned runner-up medals in Top of Iowa Conference triangular match played at the Rice Lake Golf Club on Tuesday, April 15.

Forest City won the boys meet with a winning team score of 162 as Lake Mills took second with a 175 and North Union ended up in third place with a team total of 187.

Welp takes runner-up medalist honors in Estherville

ESTHERVILLE—Ella Welp earned the runner-up medalist honor to lead the Algona Bulldog girls golf squad to a non-conference triangular win on Thursday, April 17 at the Estherville Golf & Country Club.

The red-and-black turned in the low team score of the day with a 204 total, five strokes better than Estherville-Lincoln Central’s team score of 209 as North Union had just three golfers and no team score.

AHS golfers defeat WB-M boys

ALGONA—Carding the top three scores of the day, the Algona Bulldog boys golf team defeated the West Bend-Mallard Wolverines 169-205 on Tuesday, April 15 in a non-conference match played at the newly named Eagle Hills Country Club.

Nathan Manske of Algona earned the medalist honors with a nine-hole score of 39 while West Bend-Mallard’s Carson Schneider was the runner-up medalist with his round of 42.

WB-M golf teams drop league road match

SAC CITY—The West Bend-Mallard Wolverine golf teams went on the road on Thursday, April 17 with a Twin Lakes Conference match against East Sac County at the Sac City Golf Club.

The purple-and-gold boys team fell by the final score of 154-189 while the Wolverine girls squad was on the short end of a 211-224 decision.

Tyler Hansen led the West Bend-Mallard boys with a round of 44 as Weston Nielsen carded a 46 and Houston Nielsen contributed a 48.

Two gold medals for Wolverine girls at Manson

MANSON—Winning a pair of events were the highlights of the performances of the West Bend-Mallard Wolverine girls track squad at the Emily Market Co-Ed Relays held on Thursday, April 17.

The purple-and-gold scored 51 points in the meet to finish in eighth place in the final team standings as a total of 11 teams competed in the meet.

The gold medal winners included Tyra Schupbach in the 3,000-meter run in 11:02.01 and Maddie Fehr in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.62.

Three WB-M boys relays place 2nd at Gowrie

GOWRIE—A trio of West Bend-Mallard relays were the runner-ups to highlight the performances of the purple-and-gold boys track team on Tuesday, April 15 at the Southeast Valley Relays.

The Wolverines scored a team total of 45 points to take seventh place in the final team standings as Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire won the team title with 140 points.

Bulldog distance medley qualifies for Drake Relays

HUMBOLDT—Algona had another automatic qualifier for the 2025 Drake Relays to highlight the performances of the Bulldog boys track team at the annual Charlie Bunn Relays on Friday, April 11.

Golden Bear boys place third at Cowboy Relays

CLARION—In their 2025 outdoor season opener, the Bishop Garrigan Golden Bear boys track team claimed first place in seven events, including five relays at the Cowboy Relays held on Thursday, April 10.

The black-and-gold scored a team total of 99 points to take third in the six-team field as the West Hancock Eagles took the team title with a total of 120 points.

Bulldog girls win Lady Eagle Relays

EAGLE GROVE—Winning seven events, including three relays, the Algona Bulldog girls track squad won the team title with 134 points at the Lady Eagle Relays held on Thursday, April 10.

Bishop Garrigan also competed in the 10-team meet and finished in eighth place with a team score of 38 points and won one event, as freshman Julia Swift won the 3,000-meter run in 12:02.72.

Schupbach earns 3,000 win at Lynn Jolly Relays

CHEROKEE—Junior Tyra Schupbach ran to an easy victory in the 3,000-meter run to highlight the performances of the West Bend-Mallard Wolverine girls track squad at the annual Lynn Jolly Relays on Thursday, April 10.

The purple-and-gold junior topped the field in that event with her winning time of 10:53.7, just off her school record clocking she ran earlier in the week.

AHS, BG girls run in Lion Relays

CLEAR LAKE—Both the Algona and Bishop Garrigan girls track squads competed on Tuesday, April 8 at the annual Lion Relays against six other teams.

Algona captured first place in the meet with a team score of 156 points, five points better than runner-up Clear Lake, while Bishop Garrigan scored 40 points to finish in eighth place overall.

Bulldog boys win Class A Umstead Relays

EAGLE GROVE—Placing first in seven different events, the Algona Bulldog boys track team claimed the Class A title at the Umstead Relays on Tuesday, April 8 with a team total of 145 points.

Gavin Weber was a double winner for the red-and-black by taking the 800-meter run in 2:02.41 and the 1,600-meter run with his time of 4:42.86 as Brooks Morgan was the other individual winner in the 3,200-meter run in 10:54.31.

Two first places for Warrior girls at Milford

MILFORD—Capturing a pair of first places during the night, the North Union Warrior girls track squad opened their 2025 outdoor season on Tuesday, April 8 at the annual Okoboji Relays.

The green-black-and-silver finished in fifth place with a team total of 37 points as the Spencer Tigers won the meet with a team score of 126 points.

Bauer wins 1,600 at Okoboji Early Bird Meet

MILFORD—Aiden Bauer won the 1,600-meter run in a career-best 5:11.88 to highlight the performances of the North Union Warrior boys track team at the annual Okoboji Early Bird Relays on Tuesday, April 8.

The green-black-and-silver scored 34 points during the meet to finish in fifth place in the team standings as the Spencer Tigers won the team title with a team score of 115 points.
