CLEAR LAKE—For the third straight year, the Algona Bulldog boys track team won the North Central Conference meet, with the latest coming on Thursday, May 8.
BOONE—It took two extra holes to determine the 2025 North Central Conference individual champion in the league meet that took place on Monday, May 12 at the Legacy Golf Course here.
After 18 holes of golf, Algona’s Nathan Manske and Eli Anderson of Clear Lake were deadlocked at three-over par totals of 74.
LIVERMORE—North Union’s Drew Henderson placed second at the Top of Iowa Conference boys golf tournament played at the Spring Valley Golf Course to highlight the performances of a pair of area teams.
Henderson carded an 18-hole total of 35-39—74 that was topped only by Lake Mills’ Austin Stene, who had the low score of the day with a one-over par 36-37—73. The top 10 finishers earned all-conference honors in 2025.
BRITT—Bishop Garrigan’s Amaury Thomas won the discus title at the Top of Iowa Conference meet on Thursday, May 8 to highlight the performances of a pair of area boys track teams.
Thomas flipped the platter 146’ 6” to take first place in the discus as the black-and-gold finished in fifth place with 72 points in the final team standings while North Union ended up in eighth place overall with a team total of 29 points.
BRITT—A trio of Bishop Garrigan freshmen earned individual titles at the 2025 Top of Iowa Conference track meet held on Thursday, May 8 to highlight the performances of a pair of area girls squads.
The black-and-gold finished in fourth place overall in the team standings with a team total of 82 points during the evening as North Union ended up in eighth place with a team score of 35 points.
IOWA FALLS—The Algona Bulldog girls track squad won five events at the annual North Central Conference track meet held on Thursday, May 8.
The red-and-black scored a total of 153 points during the evening, a total that was only surpassed by Clear Lake’s winning score of 194 points.
Junior Natalie Johnson was a double winner for the Bulldogs as she was a conference champion in the 100-meer dash in 12.63 and the 200-meter dash with a time of 26.44.
MANLY—Winning a pair of events, the North Union Warrior girls track squad finished in fifth place overall in the team standings at the Panther Relays held on Monday, May 12.
Alexis Cummins placed first in the 800-meter run in 2:33.57 as did the green-black-and-silver’s shuttle hurdle relay group of Cloey Anderson, Peyton Jenkins, Marissa Nielsen and Jameele Reyes with a time of 1:19.83.
ALGONA—It was opening night for the 2025 racing season at the Kossuth County Speedway on Thursday, May 8 with an impressive number of 85 cars signing in at the pit shack to compete on the first night of the season.
LIVERMORE—It was a tight match in the annual cross-town girls golf battle as the Algona Bulldogs edged the Bishop Garrigan Golden Bears 197-199 at the Spring Valley Golf Course on Thursday, May 8.
The medalist of the meet was Ava Snider of Bishop Garrigan with her nine-hole score of 47 as Ella Welp took home the runner-up medal with the same score of 47.
STORM LAKE—It was another strong showing by the Algona Bulldog girls golf squad as the team finished in second place at the Storm Lake Invitational played at the Buena Vista Lake Creek Golf Course on Saturday, May 10.
The red-and-black’s team score of 392 was topped only by MOC/Floyd Valley who ran away with the tournament title with a team total of 337.
SIOUX RAPIDS—West Bend-Mallard had a pair of runner-up finishes to highlight the performances of the purple-and-gold girls track squad at the Twin Lakes Conference meet held on Tuesday, May 6.
The Wolverines amassed a total of 52 points during the evening as the Sioux Central Rebels claimed the conference title with a team total of 128 points.
MANLY—In the last tune-up before Thursday’s district track meet, the North Union Warrior boys track team competed in the Panther Relays here on Monday, May 12.
The green-black-and-silver ended up in fifth place in the team standings with a team score of 56 points as Clear Lake took the team title with 188 points.
Algona and Bishop Garrigan shot in the Mohawk 50 trap meet on May 5 at Ventura.
Other teams present were Mason City, Lake Mills, Garner-Hayfield-Ventura and Osage.
Individual placings were: Walker Eilerts placing 1st with a perfect score of 50 and winning the shoot off. Aiden Riggert placed 3rd after a shoot off and a score of 50.
IOWA FALLS—Completing a perfect seven match run through the North Central Conference, the Algona Bulldog girls golf squad won the league dual title.
The latest wins came on Tuesday, May 6 at the Meadow Hills Golf Course as the red-and-black’s team total of 186 easily out-distanced Iowa Falls-Alden’s score of 214 and Webster City’s total of 219.
BANCROFT—North Union’s Drew Henderson carded a season-best three-under par 32 to lead the green-black-and-silver to a Top of Iowa Conference triangular boys golf victory on Tuesday, May 6 at the North Kossuth Golf Club.
The Warriors’ team total of 158 topped Garner-Hayfield/Ventura’s team score of 161 as West Hancock was third with a team total of 176.
EMMETSBURG—The Bishop Garrigan Golden Bear girls track squad won four events at the E-Hawk Girls Relays held on Monday, May 12.
The black-and-gold finished in third place in the meet with a team score of 55 points as Estherville-Lincoln Central won the team title with a score of 69 points.
Julia Swift was a double winner for the Golden Bears as the freshman won the 400-meter dash in 1:07.74 and took the 800-meter run with a time of 2:45.41.
