North Union Warriors blank winless Eagles

BRITT—North Union kept West Hancock winless in 17 games this season on Monday, June 20 with a 19-0, three-inning Top of Iowa Conference softball win over the Eagles.

The green-black-and-silver scored six runs in both the first and second innings and added seven more tallies in the third frame to improve to 19-2 overall and 9-0 in the conference while West Hancock fell to 0-17 and is 0-11 in Top of Iowa Conference contests.

Eagle Grove Eagles top Golden Bears 6-4

ALGONA—Eagle Grove scored four runs in the top of the fifth stanza to break a 2-2 dead lock and went onto a 6-4 Top of Iowa Conference softball victory on Monday, June 20 over the Bishop Garrigan Golden Bears.

The home team plated two tallies in the bottom of the opening frame for an early 2-0 advantage but Eagle Grove tied the game up in the top of the third inning.

Slagle leads Algona to 10-5 victory

ALGONA—Freshman Tate Slagle pitched five solid innings and belted the first home run of his career to help lead the Algona Bulldogs to a 10-5, non-conference baseball victory on Tuesday, June 14 over the Garner-Hayfield/Ventura Cardinals.

The home team scored a single run in the bottom of the third stanza but the visitors tied the contest up in the top of the fourth. The Bulldogs plated two runs in bottom of the frame to take a 3-1 advantage.

North Union baseball team stays hot

BUFFALO CENTER—The North Union Warriors baseball team stayed hot with their fourth straight victory on Wednesday, June 15 with an 18-9 Top of Iowa Conference win over the North Iowa Bison.

Each team scored once in the opening frame before the visitors plated three runs in the second and exploded for seven tallies in the third inning for an early 11-1advatnage. But North Iowa got three runs back in the bottom of the stanza to make the score 11-4.

Warriors drop wild 28-14 contest

BANCROFT—In one of the highest scoring games in the state this season, the Okoboji Pioneers out-scored the North Union Warriors 28-14 in six innings in a wild non-conference baseball contest played on Thursday, June 16.

Golden Bears fall in extra innings

ALGONA—Pocahontas Area scored three unearned runs in the top of the eighth inning with two outs to take a 6-4 non-conference victory over the Bishop Garrigan Golden Bears baseball team.

The home team scored three times in the opening frame for an early 3-0 advantage. Pocahontas Area scored single runs in the second, fifth and sixth stanzas to force a 3-3 dead lock and extra innings before earning the win.

Warriors blast North Iowa Bison 23-0

BUFFALO CENTER—North Union erupted for 14 runs in the top of the first inning and never looked back in a 23-0 shutout Top of Iowa Conference softball win over the North Iowa Lady Bison on Wednesday, June 15.

The green-black-and-silver added six run in the second and tacked on three more tallies in the top of the third stanza. The squad rapped out 18 hits in the victory, including six extra base hits.

No. 6 E-LC tops Bishop Garrigan 11-8

ESTHERVILLE—Sixth-ranked Estherville-Lincoln Central built a big lead early and fought off a pesky Bishop Garrigan squad by the score of 11-8 in a non-conference softball contest played on Thursday, June 16.

The home team opened the scoring with a single run in the first inning before the black-and-gold scored twice in the top of the third stanza for a brief 2-1 advantage.

Algona drops non-conference tilt

ALGONA—Algona stepped outside of North Central Conference play on Thursday, June 16 and dropped an 11-1, five-inning non-conference softball contest to the Saint Ansgar Saints.

The visitors plated two runs in the third stanza, three in the fourth and ended the contest with six tallies in the top of the fifth frame while the Bulldogs scored their lone run in the bottom of the third.

Bulldogs drop 2-1 pitcher’s duel to Clear Lake

ALGONA—Jensen Eischen and Jett Neuberger hooked up in good old fashioned pitcher’s duel on Monday, June 13 at Bulldog Park as Clear Lake edged Algona 2-1 in very entertaining North Central Conference baseball game.

ALGONA—Bishop Garrigan trailed 5-2 early but exploded for 17 of the next 18 runs and went onto a 19-6 non-conference baseball victory on Thursday, June 9 over the West Bend-Mallard Wolverines.

The home team scored twice in the bottom of the first inning for an early 2-0 advantage. Justin Bauer led of the frame with a walk, stole second and went to third when the throw sailed into centerfield.

BG girls edge Algona 2-1 in cross-town classic

BISHOP GARRIGAN—Anytime the cross-town rivals of Algona and Bishop Garrigan High Schools meet in any sport, the event is always hyped up for city bragging rights. 

On Thursday, June 9, the softball contest between the two in town schools was a classic pitcher’s duel as Molly Peterson’s seventh inning bloop single down the right field line scored Ava Hough from second base in a 2-1 Golden Bear victory.

Streuber’s grand slam gives Warriors 4-2 win

SPENCER—Beth Streuber belted a two-out, grand slam home run in the top of sixth inning to rally No. 2 ranked North Union to a 4-2 non-conference softball win on Thursday, June 9 over the Spencer Tigers.

The green-black-and-silver trailed 2-0 after the home team plated two runs in the bottom of the fifth frame before Streuber’s big fly lifted the Warriors to the come-from-behind victory.

Humboldt shuts out Algona Bulldogs 7-0

HUMBOLDT—Humboldt blanked the Algona Bulldogs by the score of 7-0 on Friday, June 10 in a key North Central Conference softball contest for the two rival schools.

The Wildcats pushed across a single run in the bottom of third inning before tacking on three more tallies in both the fourth and fifth stanzas to move to 8-1 overall and 4-1 in the league while the red-and-black fell to 4-6 overall and 2-4 in conference action.

Hampton-Dumont edges Algona 5-2

ALGONA—In the battle of the Bulldogs, Hampton-Dumont edged Algona 5-2 on Wednesday, June 8 in a North Central Conference baseball contest played at Bulldog Park.

Hampton-Dumont scored single runs in the second and seventh innings and three tallies in fifth in the victory as the home team pushed across a run in the first frame and another one on the fourth stanza.
