Swift wins title at Eagle Grove

EAGLE GROVE—Senior Quinn Swift won the title to highlight the performances of the Bishop Garrigan Golden Bears boys and girls cross-country teams on Tuesday, Oct. 5.
Swift’s winning time on Tuesday was 18:07. The black-and-gold finished in second place overall in Class B in the meet with a team score of 51 points.

EAGLE GROVE—Ryan Stundahl finished in fourth place overall on Tuesday, Oct. 5, in Class A at the Dick Bell Invitational to highlight the performances of the Algona Bulldog boys cross-country team.

Knapp wins at Eagle Grove, AHS girls 4th

EAGLE GROVE—Algona junior Moriah Knapp cruised to another first place finish on Tuesday, Oct. 5, in Class A at the Dick Bell Invitational. The Bulldogs finished fourth.

Welbig 3rd for NU, Capesius leads BGHS at Forest City

FOREST CITY—Jacey Welbig of North Union finished third overall of the 71 runners competing to highlight the performances of the North Union and Bishop Garrigan girls squads here Monday, Oct. 11. Abbie Capesius led BGHS in 11th place.

Warrior boys 8th

FAIRMONT—The North Union Warrior boys cross-country team placed eighth overall with 220 points on Thursday, Oct. 7, at the I-90 Invitational.
The top place winner for the green-black-and-silver in 27th place overall was Nick Schiltz.

No. 14 Wildcats beat Algona

HUMBOLDT—In North Central Conference volleyball action on Thursday, Oct. 7, No. 14 Humboldt toppled the Algona Bulldogs in three hard-fought sets.
The purple-and-gold took the opening game by the tally of 25-19 before winning the second set by the score of 25-21. The Wildcats ended the match with a 25-18 victory in game number three.

Warriors outlast GH-V in five sets

GARNER—It took five grueling sets to determine a winner in Tuesday, Oct. 5, Top of Iowa Conference volleyball match between the North Union Warriors and the Garner-Hayfield/Ventura Cardinals as the visitors won the match.

WBM wins 2nd league match

WEST BEND—The West Bend-Mallard Wolverines earned their second Twin Lakes Conference volleyball match victory on Thursday, Oct. 7, over the Southeast Valley Jaguars in three straight sets.
The purple-and-gold won the opening game by the score of 25-22 and took the second set 25-19, and the third, 25-16.

Alta-Aurelia rallies past Warriors

ARMSTRONG—North Union led 20-15 in the third period but Alta-Aurelia scored the final 21 points of the game to rally for a 36-20 non-district football victory on Friday, Oct. 8.

H-LP defeats Wolverines, 41-18

LAKE PARK—West Bend-Mallard led 6-0 at the conclusion of the first quarter on Friday, Oct. 8, but Harris-Lake Park scored the next 41 points and went on to a 41-18 victory over the purple-and-gold in eight-man district football.

Mistakes hurt AHS in loss to #6 Cubs

NEVADA—Nevada used three takeaways to score 21 points and went on to a 28-14 Class 3A district football victory on Friday, Oct. 8, over the Algona Bulldogs.
The red-and-black was also hurt by the yellow flag as they were penalized 12 times for 68 yards. The contest was to stay in the lead in the district standings.

Mohawks splash by Algona

   ALGONA—Mason City topped the Algona swim team 94-67 on Thursday, Oct. 7, at the Algona Family YMCA in the team’s second home meet of the season. The red-and-black won five events and was the runner-up in four more during the meet.

Regional volleyball pairings released

DES MOINES—The post-season regional volleyball pairings were released last week by the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union.
All four of the area squads will open on the same evening on Monday, Oct. 18. Here in town, Bishop Garrigan (10-15) will entertain the West Bend-Mallard (6-16).

ALGONA—Bishop Garrigan wrapped up Top of Iowa Conference volleyball play on Tuesday, Oct. 5, at home with victory over the West Hancock Eagles in three straight sets.
The home team took the opening game by the score of 25-17 before winning the second set 25-16. They ended the match with a 25-8 victory in game number three.

Titans roll over Bishop Garrigan

ALGONA—Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire rebounded from its first loss of the season last week by topping the Bishop Garrigan Golden Bears 54-16 at Conway Field on Friday, Oct. 8.
