A local family from Whittemore is the owners of a farm in Decatur County, Iowa, which was designated as a Heritage Farm recently by the Iowa Department of Agriculture.  A Heritage Farm is one that has been in the same family for 150 years or more.

BUFFALO CENTER — A narrow band of hail hit an area southwest of Buffalo Center in Kossuth County late Friday afternoon, causing some severely damaged crops.

LEDYARD — Members of the Ledyard Farm Bureau Association want to keep the annual chicken barbecue meal going. And if it is any indication, those who packed into the Ledyard Community Center on Friday, Aug. 17, don’t want it to go away.
Community leaders were expecting 450 to show up and another 225 for take outs.

ALGONA — Once the basement renovation project is completed at the Kossuth County Historical Museum, visitors will get a more comprehensive view of the history of Algona and communities in Kossuth County.

ALGONA — The Carnegie Centre of the Arts hosted on its lawn Wednesday an evening to enjoy the fellowship and friendship of this summer’s last Party in the Park put on by the Algona Area Chamber of Commerce. The evening filled with worship music by Grace Church, food and friends made the perfect closing for the summer series on an idyllic night in mid-August.
 

ALGONA — Tuesday morning interim superintendent, Dr. Thomas Williams, kicked off the school year during a breakfast in front of the Algona Community School District’s staff that he hopes to bring to the school district is “experience, stability, transparency and ethical leadership.”
Although Williams has been retired for one year and had been living in Arizona with his wife, he reassures staff, parents and students that he is equipped to take on the challenge ahead.
