ALGONA — For the past 14 years, the Carnegie Library has been home for well-known fabric designer, Sandy Gervais. That will change next year when the Carnegie Library becomes the Carnegie Centre for the Arts.
 “I am so thrilled that Brian (Buscher) is saving the building. I see the value in old buildings,” Gervais said. “I’ve always loved old architecture. One thing about old buildings is they always had great windows because they needed light. I love light.”

DeGeest, Limbaugh
 
Kayla DeGeest and Jordan Limbaugh were married on Sunday, June 25, 2017, at Bridges Bay Waterfront Event Center in Okoboji, with Pastors Peter Talbot and Dave Heisterkamp officiating. 
Kayla is the daughter of Norvin and Nancy Johnson of Okoboji, and Scott DeGeest of Green Bay, Wis. She is the granddaughter of Roger and Lois DeGeest of Casa Grande, Ariz., and Ron and Janet Kindwall of Garner. 

The Kossuth/Palo Alto County Economic Development (K/PACEDC) is a 2017 NREDA Organization Excellence Award recipient.
K/PACEDC Executive Director Maureen Elbert received the award at the National Rural Economic Developers Association annual conference in San Antonio, Texas, Nov. 1-3. This is the first year for the award.

A melding of colors and people brought the Legacy Ball into success for the 15th year in a row.
Dressed for the occasion from head to toe in elegant and festive wear, 234 guests gathered at the KC Hall in Algona on Saturday night for an evening of fun and socialization for a cause. 
Each year on the first Saturday of November, the Legacy Ball is held to raise funds for the KRHC (Kossuth Regional Health Center) Foundation.

Joseph Inman and Kaitlyn Wilson of Rolfe are the proud parents of a baby girl, Nova Alice, born Monday, Oct. 9 at Kossuth Regional Health Center. She weighed 5 pounds, 14.4 ounces and was 19.5 inches long at birth. Maternal grandparents are Evelyn and Jim Wilson of West Bend. Paternal grandparents are Rick and Jenny Inman of Rolfe. Welcoming baby Nova home is big sister Aundrea.

The 25th Annual Autumnfest Craft Show was held once again on a blustering Saturday, Oct. 28.
While crafters sat at their booths ready to sell their handcrafted items shortly before nine in the morning, a line began to form at the door as shoppers were eager to get out of the weather and find that special item. 

Lights….camera….action! The cameras were rolling in May when the Jorgenson family of Ledyard was welcomed on stage as competitors in an episode of the Family Feud.
Welcoming the contestants on stage was Steve Harvey, the show’s host. 
No stranger to game shows, Diane Jorgenson introduced her family who would be competing along side her as her boring husband of 48 years, Eldon, their mouthy daughter Stacie Anderson, her niece Jamie Woodburn and her banker nephew Jake Blome. 

ALGONA — A $2.44 million sanitary sewer rehabilitation project is underway.
The first sewer lines are expected to be cleaned and lined starting Nov. 6 and completed in June. Crews will begin the work in residential areas in the southern part of Algona.
“Depending how the weather goes, we could have it done in March,” said Pete Baumann, estimator and project manager for Visu-Sewer Inc. 

In one hour’s time, over 100 women have the opportunity to make a $10,000 impact on the life of one person or the lives of several individuals. 
On Friday, Nov. 3, every woman in Kossuth County is invited to learn more about how it is possible to make such a large impact in a short amount of time at the 100+ Women Who Care, Kossuth County kickoff event from 5:30-6:30 p.m. at the Algona Country Club.

LEDYARD — An emotional Donna Christ couldn’t find enough good words to say about how the community rallied around her husband’s battle with cancer to take care of their soybean harvest last week.
“It was awesome. It has been a little tough in our lives, but these people really have been amazing,” she said in a phone interview on Saturday. “It is a little overwhelming and pretty humbling for sure. It is just a burden lifted from us to know that it is done.”

Tiny costume covered-feet pattering along sidewalks in search of the mother load of all treats will soon be underway as Halloween festivities are scheduled throughout the county, beginning on Saturday, Oct. 28 and culminating on Halloween night with numerous trick-or-treating hours throughout the county.
