Pastor Tom and Beth (Falkner) Schlund of Algona are the proud parents of a baby girl, Abigail Jean, born Friday, July 7 at Kossuth Regional Health Center. She weighed 7 pounds, 15 ounces and was 22 inches long at birth. Maternal grandparents are Carol and Jim Falkner of St. Louis, Mo. Paternal grandparents are Rev. Steven and Becky Schlund of Great Falls, Mont. Pastor Tom is a pastor at Trinity Lutheran Church and Beth is a nurse.

Ryan Kollasch and Amy Myhre of Algona are the proud parents of a baby boy, Owen Ryan, born Saturday, July 1 at Kossuth Regional Health Center. He weighed 8 pounds and was 21 inches long at birth. Maternal grandparents are Grace and Gary Weaver of Burt. Paternal grandparents are Steve and Cindy Kollasch of Algona. Great grandparents are Richard Ringsdorf of Algona and Anna Foster of Humboldt.

Michael and Kimberly (Wood) Bode of Woden are the proud parents of a baby boy, Cohen Jace, born Friday, June 30 at Mercy Medical Center – North Iowa in Mason City. He weighed 7 pounds and 1 ounce at birth. Maternal grandparents are Betty and Larry Wood of Woden. Paternal grandparents are Rick and Joyce (Bode) Welsh of St. Benedict. Welcoming baby Cohen home are older twin siblings, Ariah and Kale.

Adrianna Rose and Evan Jon Posey, along with Seth Mitchell Gardalen are excited to announce the upcoming marriage of their parents, Adam Jon Posey and Ashley LuRae Gardalen.
Adam is the son of Mark and Karen Posey of Titonka. He is a 2001 graduate of Woden-Crystal Lake-Titonka High School and attended college in Sioux Falls, S.D. Adam is currently employed by the city of Titonka. Adam is a member of the Burt Fire Department and holds a chair on the Burt City Counsel.

FFA youth moving closer to fair week

WESLEY — On a farm south of Wesley, it is not unusual to see 16-year-old Macy Grein working with a hog or a sheep or a duck in preparation for the Kossuth County Fair.
Near Bode, 15-year-old Jackie Reding can be seen out in her garden weeding around her peppers, green beans and onions; also in preparation for the Kossuth County Fair.
This year’s week-long event will run from July 30 to Aug. 5., at the Kossuth County Fairgrounds in Algona.

What you might not know about RAGBRAI

You have probably heard the acronym RAGBRAI a lot lately. In fact, so much so that it might seem like RAGBRAI is an actual word intrinsically tied to Algona.
In four days, Algona will be transformed into an overnight stop for thousands of cyclists. It will be a place where riders can rest and refresh themselves and where the entire community can gather together for 13 hours of entertainment, food, fun and fellowship.

18th Founders’ Day: Celebrating Algona’s Heritage

Most people in Algona have heard at one time or another the story of two brothers, Asa and Ambrose Call, who journeying across the state, began to build a town they would later call Algona. 
One hundred and sixty three years later, the city continues to remember its humble beginnings in a log cabin on July 10, 1854, with a huge four-day celebration.

Adaptive RAGBRAI Team riding

Nothing can stop them. Not blindness, paralyzation or an amputated limb. 
For the seventh year in a row, Adaptive Sports Iowa Cycling Team, presented by Iowa Farm Bureau, will be hitting the roadways to accomplish the task of cycling across the entire state of Iowa. 
This year, the 80-person team will be staying in the new gymnasium at Bishop Garrigan High School. 

Ag Learning Center renovated

ALGONA — The Ag Learning Center on the Kossuth County Fairgrounds has been renovated to make it a multi-use facility during the Kossuth County Fair.
This year’s event runs from July 30 through Aug. 5.
“We wanted to give back to the community and find a project with agriculture that everyone would enjoy,” said Cole Eden, president of the Algona High School FFA program.
The school FFA chapter funded the project through fundraisers.
