Burns earns medalist honor

EAGLE GROVE—Annie Burns earned the medalist honor and Avery Lichter took home the runner-up medal to highlight the performances of the Bishop Garrigan boys’ and girls’ golf teams in a Top of Iowa Conference match on Tuesday, April 19.

Burns recorded three pars in her low round of the day with a score of 43 while teammate Lichter had one par in her nine-hole total of 49.

NU boys split league match

FOREST CITY—North Union split a Top of Iowa Conference boys’ golf match played at the Bear Creek Golf Course on Friday, April 22.

Forest City placed first in the league triangular with a team total of 173 followed by North Union with a 186 and Garner-Hayfield/Ventura was third with a score of 196.

Sam Wood of Garner-Hayfield/Ventura earned the meet medalist honor with his nine-hole total of 41 as the runner-up medal went to Jack Harms of Forest City with a 42.

Algona Bulldogs win five events

SPIRIT LAKE—The Algona Bulldog boys’ track team split up their squad for the second straight evening on Friday, April 22 as most of the team went to the Sheryl Maahs Co-Ed Relays in Spirit Lake while the rest of the squad competed in the Pocahontas Relays.

At Spirit Lake, the red-and-black won a total of five events led by Jaxon Woodyard with a career-best toss of 50’ 6½” in the shot put.

Prochniak double winner at Bison Relays

BUFFALO CENTER—North Union’s junior Bryer Prochniak was a double winner on Thursday, April 21 to highlight the performances of the Warriors and the Bishop Garrigan Golden Bears at the Bison Relays.

The Golden Bears finished in sixth place in the 10-team field with 57.5 points as the green-black-and-black ended up in eighth place with 37 points.

BGHS boys win Class B title at Poky

POCAHONTAS—Behind three first place winners and nine runner-up finishes, the Bishop Garrigan Golden Bear boys’ track team won the Class B title with 151 points at the Pocahontas Relays on Friday, April 22.

North Union also was in Class B and ended up in sixth place with 52 points as the green-black-and-silver had four first place winners during the evening.

AHS girls win two relays at Webster City

WEBSTER CITY—The Algona Bulldog girls’ track squad won a pair of relays at the Lady Lynx Invitational held on Thursday, April 21.

The red-and-black finished in fourth place in the seven-team field of squads with their team total of 75 points as Clear Lake won the team title with 139 points.

Three area girls’ teams run at Spirit Lake

SPIRIT LAKE—Three area girls’ track squads competed on Friday, April 22 at a makeup edition of the Sheryl Maahs Co-Ed Relays.

Algona finished in third place with a team total of 59 points in the eight-team field as North Union ended up in sixth place with 47 points and Bishop Garrigan finished eighth with 16 team points.

Eight area athletes qualify for Drake Relays

ALGONA—A total of eight area athletes qualified for this week’s annual Drake Relays to be held inside Drake Stadium with the running events on the beautiful blue oval track.

Bulldog boys fall in NCC golf meet

FORT DODGE—Opening North Central Conference play at the road at the Lakeside Golf Course on Tuesday, April 19, the Algona Bulldog boys’ golf team dropped a league triangular meet.

St. Edmond won the meet narrowly edging out Iowa Falls-Alden by one stroke 188-189 while Algona finished in third place with a team total of 195.

Algona girls golf squad win NCC opener

IOWA FALLS—The Algona Bulldog girls’ golf squad won their 2022 North Central Conference opener on Tuesday, April 19 at the Meadow Hills Golf Club.

The red-and-black compiled a team total of 202 to win the league opener as Iowa Falls-Alden was second with a score of 211 and St. Edmond finished third with a 263.

Paige Danger of Iowa Falls-Alden was the medalist of the meet with a nine-hole score of 47 as the Bulldogs Abby Brooks was the runner-up medalist her total of 48.

AHS boys play in Spencer Invite

SPENCER—On Thursday, April 21, the Algona Bulldog boys’ golf team played in the Spencer Invitational at the Spencer Country Club and placed 11th with a team total of 413.

Spencer won the team title with a score of 317 as the Tiger’s Andrew Hough won the medalist honor with an 18-hole total of 77 and teammate Kaden Miller earned the runner-up medal, also with a round of 77.

Von Bank fires a 45 to earn medal

LAKE MILLS—Olivia Von Bank carded a nine-hole total of 45 to earn the medalist honor to highlight the performances of the North Union Warrior girls’ and boys’ golf teams at a Top of Iowa Conference triangular held at the Rice Lake Golf Club.

Hoch runner-up medalist for Wolverines

MANSON—Ryan Hoch earned the runner-up medalist to highlight the performances of the West Bend-Mallard Wolverines girls’ golf squad who played at the Manson Golf & Country Club on Monday, April 25 in a Twin Lakes Conference quadrangular meet.

Southeast Valley had the low team score of the day with a total of 235 as East Sac County was next with a 262 with Manson Northwest Webster finishing third with a score of 274 and West Bend-Mallard placed fourth with a total of 289.

Nielsen earns runner-up medal for WB-M

GOWRIES—Houston Nielsen earned the runner-up medal for the West Bend-Mallard Wolverine boys’ golf team on Monday, April 25 in a Twin Lakes Conference quadrangular match held at the Gowrie Municipal Golf Course.

Southeast Valley won the league match with a team score of 181 followed by Manson Northwest Webster with a 199, one stroke ahead of West Bend-Mallard’s total of 200 and East Sac County did not have enough golfers for a team score.

Hoch takes medalist honor

WEST BEND—Senior Ryan Hoch was the girls’ medalist to highlight the performances of the West Bend-Mallard Wolverine girls’ and boys’ golf teams in a Twin Lakes Conference match on Thursday, April 21 at home.

Hoch’s nine-hole total of 59 was the low round of the day while purple-and-gold teammates Emma Weydert had an 82 with Brenda Falcon shooting an 88.

BGHS golf teams host league meet

LIVERMORE—Both the Bishop Garrigan Golden Bear boys’ and girls’ golf squads hosted a Top of Iowa Conference meet on Thursday, April 21 at the Spring Valley Golf Course.

The black-and-gold girls remained perfect with a team total of 186 as Garner-Hayfield/Ventura was second with a score of 204 and Belmond-Klemme was third with a 280.
