Bulldogs defeated in NCC road match

CLEAR LAKE—The Algona Bulldog boys’ golf team lost a North Central Conference triangular on Friday, April 22 played at the Clear Lake Golf Club.

The home team won the meet with a score of 165, four strokes better than second place Humboldt’s total of 169 and the Bulldogs finished in third place with a 207.

Clear Lake’s Easton DeVries was the medalist for the day with a score of 38 while teammate Eli Anderson earned the runner-up medal with a 39.

Bulldog boys take two events at Waukee

WAUKEE—The Algona Bulldog boys’ track team split their squad with some athletes running at the Waukee Invitational and the others at the Humboldt Relays on Thursday, April 21 and won a pair of events.

The red-and-black placed fifth at Waukee with 78.5 points and took ninth at Humboldt with 34 points. The wins came at Waukee in the 100-meter dash by Porter Reffer in the 100-meter dash in 11.52 and Ryan Stundahl in the 3,200-meter run with a clocking of 10:33.24.

Two wins at Newell for WB-M boys

NEWELL—Winning a pair of events, the West Bend-Mallard Wolverine boys’ track team finished in fourth place overall in a seven-team field at the Mustang Relays on Friday, April 22 with 69 points.

Collin Montag earned a gold medal in the 800-meter run with his winning time of 2:07.60 along with the 4 x 800-meter relay unit of Joe Mader, Lucas Fehr, Max Fehr and Collin Montag in 8:57.60.

Lexi Welter wins the 3,000 for WB-M

NEWELL—Lexi Welter won the 3,000-meter run to highlight the performances of the West Bend-Mallard Wolverine girls’ track squad at the Mustang Relays on Friday, April 22.

Lexi’s winning time on Friday was 13:28.78 as the purple-and-gold ended up in seventh place overall in the eight-team field with a team total of 38 points.

Crooks verbally commits to Iowa State

ALGONA—The suspense is over where the top Class of 2023 girls’ basketball recruit in the state of Iowa will continue her career after graduation next spring.

Bishop Garrigan’s three-time first-team all-state Audi Crooks verbally committed to Iowa State University in an assembly in the Golden Bear gymnasium on Thursday, April 14 in front of her high school students and friends.

Trapshooters compete in Emmetsburg Invitational

CYLINDER—The Algona trapshooting team competed in the Emmetsburg Invitational on Saturday, April 16. The meet saw a total of 26 teams and 229 shooters compete in the event.

The high score of the day came from the Algona 8 team with a score of 227. Members of that squad were James Burma, Cole Harms, Chase Roof, Nick Christensen and Hunter Thilges.

Three area girls’ golf squads compete at West Bend

WEST BEND—A trio of area girls’ squads tried to complete a non-conference triangular match at the West Bend Golf and Country Club on Tuesday, April 12.

But not all of the players completed all of their nine holes before an incoming storm rolled through but enough young ladies completed their round to establish a final score.

North Union boys’ golf team wins triangular

ALGONA—The North Union Warrior boys’ golf team prevailed in an area boys’ triangular non-conference match played on Tuesday, April 12 at the Algona Country Club.

The green-black-and-silver had the low team score of the day with a total of 174 as Algona finished in second place with a score of 194 and West Bend-Mallard ended up in third place with a total of 220.

BGHS girls win seven events at Sundall Relays

ALGONA—Three area girls’ track squads competed on Monday, April 11 at the Adam Sundall Co-Ed Relays competing against a total of eight other teams.

Bishop Garrigan won seven events and placed second overall with 126 points followed by Algona in third place with 112 points and North Union ended up in fourth place with a team score of 77.

ALGONA—Algona won four events and finished third in the team standings to highlight the performances of three area boys’ track teams at the Adam Sundall Co-Ed Relays held on Monday, April 11 at Bishop Garrigan.

Eisenbarth earns medalist honor

ARMSTRONG—Ava Eisenbarth was the medalist as teammate Annie Burns earned the runner-up medal in Top of Iowa Conference girls’ golf triangular meet held on Monday, April 11 at the Country Greens Golf Course.

Bishop Garrigan won the triangular meet with a team score of 195 while Forest City was second with a 256 and North Union did not have enough players for a team score.

Collin Montag double winner for WB-M boys

GOWRIE—Collin Montag won a pair of events to highlight the performances of the West Bend-Mallard Wolverine boys’ track team at the Southeast Valley Invitational on Monday, April 11.

Montag crossed the finish line first in the 800-meter run with his time of 2:05.04 and won the high jump with a winning leap of 5’ 6”.

The purple-and-gold finished in second place in Class B in the eight-team field with a team total of 139 points, topped only by Madrid’s winning score of 204.

Fothergill earns runner-up medal

ARMSTRONG—Teagon Fothergill of North Union was the runner-up medalist with a nine-hole score of 41 at a Top of Iowa Conference boys’ golf triangular on Monday, April 11.

Forest City won the meet with a team total of 176 while Bishop Garrigan was second with a score of 188 and North Union placed third with a 191.

Fothergill recorded pars on Holes No. 1, 2, 5, 6 and 7 during his round that was topped only by Forest City’s Jack Harms, who carded a round of 40.

West Bend-Mallard girls’ golf open season on the road

NEWELL—The West Bend-Mallard Wolverine girls’ golf squad began the 2022 season with a Twin Lakes Conference quadrangular meet on Monday, April 11.

Newell-Fonda won the league meet with a team score of 196 with Pocahontas Area taking second with a 212 as Sioux Central finished in third place with a 249 and West Bend-Mallard ended up in fourth place with a team total of 288.

Wolverine boys fall in league opener

SIOUX RAPIDS—The West Bend-Mallard Wolverine boys’ golf team fell in their Twin Lakes Conference opening golf meet on Monday, April 11.

Pocahontas Area placed first with a team total of 163 followed by Newell-Fonda with a 174, Sioux Central took third with a 212 and the Wolverines were fourth with a team score of 236.

Algona girls’ golf squad drops opener

ESTHERVILLE—The Algona Bulldog girls’ golf squad dropped their 2022 season opener on Monday, April 11 in a non-conference meet at the Estherville Golf and Country Club.

Spirit Lake won the non-conference triangular with a team score of 211 as Algona came in the clubhouse in second place with a team total of 244 and Estherville-Lincoln Central finished in third place with a 257.
