Absentee ballots now available

DES MOINES – Secretary of State Paul Pate announced Iowans, military members stationed outside the U.S. and overseas citizens can now begin requesting absentee ballots for the November general election. State law allows Iowans to request absentee ballots beginning 70 days before an election. County auditors will begin mailing absentee ballots to those that requested them starting October 19. That is also the first day Iowans can vote in-person for the November 8 election.

What flavor are you?

My grandparents lived just outside the Des Moines city limits. They were not part of the city water system so the water they used and drank came from a well. The water had a very distinctive taste so yummy to me that I would love to have a drink of that water today. When my husband tried the water for the first time, he thought it tasted horrible. He was used to drinking water from his hometown of Clarion. I will admit that the water did have a different flavor from other places.
