Alcohol, drug abuse is happening in county

Editor’s Note: September was designated as National Alcohol and Addiction Month. Over the next two weeks, the Algona Upper Des Moines will provide insight on what is happening in Kossuth County. This week the newspaper will discuss drug and alcohol use in the county. Next week’s piece will feature a 40-year-old woman who has battled cocaine and marijuana use to get her life back together.

Katiluta Festivities

KATILUTA— Andrew J. Kunayak Sr., originally from Little Diomede, entertained the audience during the Saturday Katiluta festivities with a dance. See more photos on pages 8 and 9.

Pushing Their Luck

PUSHING THEIR LUCK—John A. Keeley of Phoenix Marine chanced having his barges caught by freezing water and also challenged the Nome Port Commission to allow him to store them frozen into the harbor, against the rules up to now. He came out double winner—getting the barges out and getting the Commission’s approval on a parking place in the harbor as a backup plan.
