ALGONA — The finishing decorating touches are being placed on the 29th annual Bishop Garrigan Gala.
The theme for this year’s event is “The Big Apple: Start Spreading the News.” A preview party will be held at Friedmann Auditorium, Friday, April 6, 5-7 p.m. The Gala will be held on April 7, starting at 5:30 p.m., with hors d’oeuveres and a silent auction, followed by a 7 p.m. opening prayer and comments, and a 7:30 p.m., dinner and live auction.

Spring renewal show fits the season

ALGONA — Spring Renewal not only fits with this time of the season, it is also an opportunity for Mindy Lichter to display her spring body of artwork to the public.
The event will be held on Saturday, March 24, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., at MLichter fINE ART design on Dodge Street. It will include different size wall hanging pieces of art and fused glass pieces including jewelry, magnets, and smaller wall hangings.

100+ Women Who Care-Kossuth County, has held two meetings and has already given $20,000 back to the community. Angelique Berry is credited for bringing this organization to Kossuth County.

A new playground for bullying

ALGONA — The Internet is becoming the new playground for bullying.
“It is a huge problem,” said Algona police officer Marc Bacha during a telephone interview last week. “It is taking up a lot of our resources.
A member of the Internet Crime Against Children Task Force, Michael Ferjack, added during a presentation last week at Algona High School, “The stakes could not be higher than they are right now.”

Honoring a special lady and her family

LAKOTA — Donna Christ does not want a special evening for her after her husband, David, died earlier this year. However, those closest to her told her they were going to do it anyway.
“This is a way to give back to a family that has given to the communities in northern Kossuth County and around the area,” said Annette Valvick, who is helping coordinate the event, “The measure of a man…The love of a community.”

Housing project hinges on city tax program

ALGONA — Construction of the first houses of a new housing development on the east side of town could begin as early as this spring. If the project happens could depend on assistance from the Algona City Council.

School board president resigns

ALGONA — Algona Community School District board president, Floyd Lavrenz, has resigned.
In a letter presented to the school board, superintendent and board secretary at Monday’s meeting, Lavrenz stated, “it is with much regret I feel the need to resign from the Algona Community School District Board of Directors.”

No problem adjusting to new ownership

BANCROFT - The moment Ted LeNeave walked into the care center in Bancroft, he knew he had made the right decision.
