Curtis P. Haahr the son of Peter and Eleonora (Johansen) Haahr was born Jan. 18, 1921, in Ringsted, Iowa. He died on Sunday, Dec. 25, 2016, at the Avera Holy Family Hospital in Estherville, at the age of 95.
He received his education in Ringsted schools, graduating from Ringsted High School. He then attended one year at Estherville Junior College. Curtis served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II from Feb. 22, 1941, until Sept. 15, 1945.
On Feb. 15, 1947, he married Esther Olson. The couple made their home in Ringsted, until moving to Algona. He served the ASCS in Emmet County and was a district director in northwest Iowa. Curtis served as CED of Kossuth County ASCS office for over 22 years. Esther died in 2014.
Curtis was a member of the United Methodist Church in Armstrong; VFW; American Legion and the Masonic Lodge.
Left to cherish Curtis’ memory are his children, Calvin Haahr of Ringsted; Verlyn Haahr and his wife, Leanna of Waterloo; Carol Lynn Murphy of Firesteel, S.D.; three grandchildren, Andy Haahr, Danny Haahr, Fallon Murphy and two sister’s, Mavis Peterson and Mildred Gripentrog.
