It is the details and the organization that makes the 24th Annual AutumnFest Craft Show the place to be on Saturday, Oct. 22.
The 24th Annual AutumnFest Craft Show will have some of the same crafters, but those visiting could possibly see something a bit new at the booths this year.

LONE ROCK – The Quilted Steeple is often the site of quilting retreats and shows, however, the show and retreat held the weekend of Oct. 1, brought quilters together for a special purpose.

ALGONA — The city of Algona’s animal control ordinance is located on its website, and deems a vicious dog as any dog which has attacked a human being or domestic animal one or more times without provocation.
The ordinance goes on to list nine additional indications of a vicious dog, including naming the Staffordshire terrier or American pit bull.
Andrew Eisenbacher of Algona believes that ordinance is unfair. He owns a large white and black pit bull named Thor.

ALGONA – Weeks of hard work came together Saturday afternoon for the 16 bands in the Algona Band Day Parade.
The Bishop Garrigan High School Solid Gold Marching Band started its day with the parade and a pre-performance ritual to get everyone ready and excited for competition.
Drum Major Courtney Kirsch started the pre-parade routine with a band “pop quiz”
“When do we put our horns up,” she asked.
“On four,” was a reply from the band.

ALGONA – Throughout its history, Algona High School has been known for building a rich tradition of athletic success.
Of the hundreds of coaches and student athletes that have walked through the doors of AHS, 26 of them have been recognized over the years with a place on the Algona High School Wall of Fame.
Those individuals were recognized once again during Homecoming, Friday, Sept. 23, as the first 26 to be placed on the new Wall of Fame in the high school commons.

Algona High School’s 2016 Homecoming theme was “The Magical World of Algona High School,” based off of the Harry Potter book series. Throughout the week there were games and dress up days based on this theme. The hallways of the school were also decorated to fit the theme.

LONE ROCK – Quilters will have an opportunity to come together and quilt for a cause this weekend.
The Quilted Steeple, 2605 90th Ave., rural Lone Rock, in conjunction with the Quilts of Valor Foundation, will be hosting a quilt-a-thon starting at 5 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 29 and wrapping up around noon on Sunday Oct. 2.

KATILUTA— Andrew J. Kunayak Sr., originally from Little Diomede, entertained the audience during the Saturday Katiluta festivities with a dance. See more photos on pages 8 and 9.

PUSHING THEIR LUCK—John A. Keeley of Phoenix Marine chanced having his barges caught by freezing water and also challenged the Nome Port Commission to allow him to store them frozen into the harbor, against the rules up to now. He came out double winner—getting the barges out and getting the Commission’s approval on a parking place in the harbor as a backup plan.
