Variety of live music for Founders’ weekend

Live music fans will have a lot of variety to choose from at the Algona’s Founders’ Day celebration, scheduled for July 11 through 14.

Friday Night Street Dance

On Friday, July 12 come down to State Street to enjoy music from two live bands. Youth Gone Wild will play at 7 p.m. followed by The Pork Tornadoes at 8:30 p.m.

Senior Center gets new floor

The project has been funded in part with a grant from the Kossuth Community Foundation. The Senior Center is fundraising to raise the remaining balance for the project. This is phase one of the project that covers the main dining room, hallways and bathrooms. The work is being done by DCD Garage Floors out of Webster City. This is a nice addition to the new ceiling tiles and painted walls already completed. The large dining room as well as a smaller one are available for rent.

Burt Beautiful's sign frame

Check out the Ultimate Selfie Picture Frame on the south lawn of the Burt Activity Complex. Jean Stumme presented the idea of a permanent Photo Prop to Burt Beautiful and oversaw the project which is expected to be finished by the Burt Summer Celebration, July 13th. The purpose is to have a fun place to take pictures within the frame for special moments, like a class reunion, family gatherings or whatever you can imagine.

Tour of Gardens

Members of the Kossuth Area Garden club will be hosting a garden tour which will feature seven gardens within the city of Bancroft on July 15 from 3-7 p.m.  Tour admission along with maps showing the location of the gardens will be available for purchase at the city gazebo next to city hall in downtown Bancroft. Cost of admission is $10.

Founders’ Day

Algona Founders’ Day is celebrated from Thurs., July 11 through Sunday, July 14. Enjoy live music by the Pork Tornadoes, the World Food Festival, Art in the Park, bags and volleyball tournaments and so much more. For a schedule of events and details, visit www.algona.org.

Reisings celebrate 60th with country music star

Tom and Mary Ann Reising brought country music star Brandon Davis from Chattanooga, Tenn. to Algona for their 60th wedding anniversary. Davis put on a concert at Tietz park for friends and family of the Reisings.

Supervisors correct funding error during special meeting

The Kossuth County Board of Supervisors corrected a funding error during a recent special meeting, saying the issue stemmed from a decision made during a budget workshop.

The June 29 meeting was called to resolve an issue with the amount of tax money sent to the Secondary Roads Department during the 2023-24 fiscal year, which ended on June 30.

Flag flown in Bagram Afghanistan donated to Algona

Mayor Rick Murphy was presented with a flag from Darryl Sapoff of New York on June 20. Born in Algona, Darryl returns to the area each year to visit family and attend the ABATE Freedom Rally. While serving in the United States Army, Darryl went to Afghanistan three times and flew this flag from the Bagram Air Base on his mother Faye’s birthday, Aug. 25, 2005. His mother came to Algona with him to present the flag.
