John E. Ree

The family of John Ree originally planned a memorial celebration of his life for June 13 at R Place farm near Burt. John passed away Dec. 3, 2019. Circumstances due to the COVID-19 coronavirus have led the family to cancel the event. May Ree said, “We feel that John would be very upset if we did have the celebration and someone in the crowd would become ill from the coronavirus. Please accept our apologies if this in any away changes your plans for the weekend.”

JoHanna Boyle, age 56, of Algona, passed away peacefully with her family present on Monday, June 1, 2020, at MercyOne Medical Center, North Iowa in Mason City.

Joseph L. Smith

Joe Smith, 88 of Algona, died Monday, June 1, 2020, at the Algona Manor Care Center. A private service for the immediate family only is Thursday, June 4, at 10:30 a.m. at Oakcrest Funeral Services of Algona. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery with military honors conducted. Irene (Kemna) Rosenstiel

Irene (Kemna) Rosenstiel, 88 of Britt and formerly of Corwith, passed away May 31, 2020, at Westview Care Center in Britt.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Irene Rosenstiel will be held Friday, June 5, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 139 Third St. SE in Britt with Father Jim Dubert officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Corwith.

A graveside service for John Schiltz, 82 of Lake Mills, formerly of Bancroft, will be at held 3 p.m. Sunday, June 7, 2020, at St. John’s Catholic Cemetery in Bancroft. A public visitation will be held at Oakcrest Funeral Services of Bancroft on Sunday, June 7, from 1 p.m. until time of graveside services. Social distancing practices will be followed at both the visitation and graveside services. Oakcrest Funeral Services of Bancroft is in charge of arrangements.

Sandra “Sandy” Kay Whitehurst, age 76 of West Des Moines, Iowa, passed away on Friday, May 22, 2020, at Palo Alto County Hospital in Emmetsburg, Iowa.

Phyllis Marie (Pentecost) Morris, age 66 of Camdenton, Missouri, died peacefully surrounded by her family on Friday, May 29, 2020, after a short battle with metastatic lung cancer.

Pastor Merlin K. Norris, age 84 of Lake Mills, died on Friday, May 29, 2020, at MercyOne North Iowa in Mason City.
A private family service was held at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Scarville, Iowa, with Pastor Randy Baldwin, Pastor Joel Guttormson and Pastor Melinda McCluskey officiating. Burial took place in the North Prairie Lutheran Cemetery, rural Leland, Iowa.

Geraldine 'Geri' Peterson

Geraldine “Geri” Ann Peterson, 94 of Algona, passed away Tuesday, May 26, 2020, at the Good Samaritan Society Algona.
Her family will greet friends from 3 to 6 p.m., Wednesday, June 24, at Oakcrest Funeral Services of Algona. Private family graveside services will be held Thursday, June 25, at East Lawn Cemetery.

Irvin J. Kenne

Irvin J. Kenne, 91 of Mason City, Iowa, formerly of Algona, Iowa, died Thursday, May 28, 2020, at the IOOF Home in Mason City. A private family Mass of Christian Burial was held on Tuesday, June 2, at St. Cecelia Catholic Church in Algona with the Rev. Ed Girres celebrating. Richard Rochleau

Richard “Dick” Allen Rochleau, 80 of Kennewick, Wash., died May 5, 2020, at the Chaplaincy Hospice House in Kennewick. He was born June 17, 1939, to Victor and Ola (Blue) Rochleau in rural Algona, Iowa.

Ida Rose Barone

Ida Rose (Fandel) Barone was born Nov. 30, 1934, in Whittemore, Iowa, the daughter of Ralph and Hildred (Elbert) Fandel. She attended and graduated from St. Cecelia Academy in 1952. Ida Rose moved to California in 1953. She started working for Union Bank of California where she worked for 25 years.

Ashley Nicole Kajewski, 30 of Marion, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, May 19, 2020, at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City, Iowa.

Robert Watson

Robert “Bob” Watson, 86 of Algona, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, May 17, 2020, at the Good Samaritan Care Center in Algona. He suffered from complications of Parkinson’s disease. John Hattle

John Lenard Hattle, son of Larman and Leola (Godden) Hattle, was born on March 18, 1940 in Forest City, Iowa. John passed away on Thursday, May 21, 2020, at his home in rural Armstrong at the age of 80 years.
Due to the current COVID-19 pandemic, private family services will be held at this time with a public memorial service taking place at a later date. Burial will take place at Estherville Lutheran Cemetery in Estherville.

James ‘Jake’ Pettit

A memorial service for James Pettit of Lone Rock will be held later this summer. Inurnment will be in Fenton Township Cemetery in rural Lone Rock with military honors conducted.
