Mary Estelle Godfredsen, daughter of Frank and Mary (Waldron) Gappa, was born on Oct. 15, 1929, in Whittemore, Iowa. She passed away on April 24, 2020, at Windsor Manor Assisted Living in Algona at the age of 90 years.

Mary “Lulu” Ludwig, age 85 of Corwith, passed away on Tuesday, April 21, 2020, at Westview Care Center in Britt.

Edward Broesder

Edward Broesder, age 83 of Algona, passed away Sunday, April 19, 2020, at the Kossuth Regional Health Center in Algona.

Helen Keleher

Helen Keleher, 96, passed away on April 15, 2020 at Frey Village Retirement Community, Middletown, Pa.
She was born in Vinton, Iowa, on March 10,1924, and graduated from high school in Webster City, Iowa, in 1942. She married George Keleher March 10, 1946.
They were in the men’s clothing business in Belmond and Algona, Iowa, until they retired in 1988. In 2007, they moved to Pennsylvania.

Francis Mishak

Francis Anthony Mishak, 83, passed away Saturday, April 18, 2020, at the IOOF Home in Mason City, Iowa.
A private family service will be held Friday, April 24, at Ward-Van-Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. 4th St, Clear Lake, Iowa. Burial will be in Clear Lake Cemetery.

Janice Hackenmiller

Janice Marion Hackenmiller, age 81 of Stacyville, Iowa, died Sunday, April 19, 2020, at the Stacyville Community Nursing Home.
Due to state and federal guidance on gatherings due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the family will hold a public celebration of her life at a later date. A private graveside service was held at the Visitation Catholic Church Cemetery with Father Raymond Burkle officiating.

Michael Schiltz

Michael Anthony Schiltz, 90, of Bancroft, died Sunday, April 19, 2020, at Fleur Heights Care Center in Des Moines. In following the recommendations of the Iowa Department of Public Health Disaster Emergency, as well as careful consideration for the family and friends of Mike, his family has decided not to have a funeral Mass at this time. A Mass will be held at a later date at St. Johns Catholic Church in Bancroft with military honors conducted.

Cynthia Patterson

Cynthia Patterson, the daughter of Russell and Ruth (Olson) Patterson, passed away March 29, 2020, at the home of her son Nathan and Mara Curtis in Nicasio, Calif. Cyndy, 66, died of pancreatic cancer.

Paul Lenz

Paul Frederick Lenz, son of Roland and Luella (Oberhelman) Lenz, died peacefully at home, surrounded by family, on April 14, 2020, after a short battle with lung cancer.

Kenneth Meyer

Kenneth William Meyer, 72, of Oelwein, Iowa, passed away Saturday, April 11, 2020, in his home due to complications from a long battle with cancer.
Ken was born May 11, 1947, in Whittemore, Iowa, to parents Ernest and Leona (Kinnetz) Meyer. He attended St. Paul’s Lutheran School in Whittemore and then Algona High School, graduating with the class of 1965.

Annette Montag

Annette Ann Montag was born July 3, 1962, in Sioux City, the daughter of Larry and Sandra (Weber) Cooksey. She attended school in Emmetsburg and graduated from the Emmetsburg High School. Annette went on to attend and graduate from Iowa Lakes Community College.
Annette was married to Joseph Gagen in 1988. They later divorced, and in 2007 she was united in marriage to William “Jack” Montag. She worked at Universal Manufacturing until her retirement.

Jolene Hunt

Jolene Hunt, 59, of Lu Verne, died Wednesday, April 8, 2020. In following the recommendations of the Iowa Department of Public Health Disaster Emergency, as well as, careful consideration for the family and friends, Jolene’s family has decided not to have a public memorial at this time. They plan to have a celebration of life at a later date. Oakcrest Funeral Services of Lu Verne is in charge of arrangements.

Merlyn Swanson

Merlyn Swanson, 89, of Lu Verne, died Wednesday, April 8, 2020, at Kossuth Regional Health Center in Algona. Elaine Shackelford

Elaine (Dodds) Shackelford, 83, of Algona, Iowa, passed away Sunday, April 12, 2020, at the home of her daughter in St. Joseph, Iowa, following a yearlong struggle with illness.
Elaine, the daughter of Homer and Lula (Hintz) Dodds, was born July 7, 1936, in Algona. Her parents farmed near Lone Rock. She was baptized at Trinity Lutheran Church, but later became a member of the First United Methodist Church. She attended country school and Algona High School.

Irene Thilges

Irene L. Thilges, 94, formerly of rural Livermore, passed away Thursday, April 9, 2020, at the long-term care unit of the Humboldt County Memorial Hospital.

Jacob ‘Bud’ Peterson

Jacob Junior “Bud” Peterson was born Dec. 22, 1939, in Lakota, Iowa, the son of Jacob F. and A. Irene (Weinga) Peterson. He attended school in Lakota and graduated from the Lakota High School in 1958. Following high school, Bud enlisted in the United State Marine Corp and was stationed in Japan. He was very proud of his service in the military.
