Ann Marie Wood, the daughter of Walter and Lorena (Wehrspan) Vaudt, was born on Oct. 12, 1942, in Rochester, Minn.  Ann was the youngest of eight children. Ann spent winters in Florida with her parents and her father shared the love of fishing with her. Ann was confirmed in 1956 at St Paul Lutheran Church and graduated from St. Paul Lutheran High School in 1960, both in Whittemore. After graduation, she attended Minnesota State University in Rochester.

On Jan. 12, 1964, Ann was united in marriage to Warren Wood in Whittemore. They celebrated 60 years of marriage this year. The couple farmed together and raised their five children: Pamela, Deborah, Cathy, Tracy and Troy.

Ann held various odd jobs throughout the years. She especially loved being a lifeguard at the Livermore Pool and Fort Dodge YMCA.  She also held the AAL secretary position for 25 plus years and helped in various areas at church. Her greatest joy was being a farm wife and mother.

Ann loved her family very much and was kind and positive to everyone. In her spare time she enjoyed fishing at Lake of the Woods, swimming in Livermore, gardening (she did a lot of canning and her lime pickles were the best), and traveling to their home in Venice, Fla. Ann was a great cook. Her specialties were pancakes (especially loved by the grandkids), pea salad, scalloped corn, orange salad, and angel food cake. Ann enjoyed life to the fullest, always wore bright colors and her favorite color was blue.

Left to cherish Ann’s memory are her husband of 60 years: Warren of Humboldt; children: Pamela Wood of Humboldt, Deborah (Brent) Maguire of Rockwell City, Cathy Wood of Ankeny, Tracy (Shane) Dickey of Gilmore City and Troy (Lindsey) Wood of Hardy; 18 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents: Walter and Lorena Vaudt; stepmother Delphine Vaudt; father and mother-in-law; Leo and Esther Wood; four sisters: Dawn (John) Struecker, Phyllis (Harold) Behnke, Jeannette (Elmer) Maahs and Sandra (Don) Morrow and three brothers: Calvin (Eunice) Vaudt, Eugene (Caroline) Vaudt and Harlan (Vernita) Vaudt.
