STORM LAKE—Algona went on the road in non-conference volleyball action on Monday, Sept. 26 as the red-and-black defeated the Storm Lake Tornadoes in four sets.

The Bulldogs dropped the opening game of the match by the score 21-25. But the visitors roared back to take the next three sets by the scores of 25-20, 25-11 and 25-15.

FORT DODGE—In a wild eight-man district number two football contest played on Friday, Sept. 30 at beautiful Dodger Stadium, the St. Edmond Gaels outscored the Bishop Garrigan Golden Bears by the score of 45-40.

Wide receiver Johnny Dickerson was the main thorn in the black-and-gold’s side in the contest as the Gael senior hauled in 16 passes for 216 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

BUFFALO CENTER—West Bend-Mallard rushed for eight touchdowns, returned both a kickoff and an interception and passed for three more scores in an 83-13 rout of North Iowa on Friday, Sept. 30 in eight-man football district action.

The Wolverines erupted for a 35-0 advantage at the conclusion of the first stanza and never looked back as every player wearing a purple-and-gold uniform saw action in the blowout.

LAKE MILLS—Gavyn Morphew placed seventh overall to highlight the performances of the North Union Warrior boys’ cross-country team at the Lake Mills Invitational held at the Rice Lake Golf Course on Monday, Oct. 3.

Morphew sprinted across the finish line to stop the watches with his time of 18:14.1 while teammate Aidan Bauer took 21^st in 20:14.9 and Chase Cummins ended up in 29^th place with a clocking of 21:29.8.

LAKE MILLS—Jacey Welbig took second individually and the North Union Warrior girls’ cross-country squad were the runner-ups at the Lake Mills Invitational held on Monday, Oct. 3 at the Rice Lake Golf Course.

The green-black-and-silver’s team total of 73 points was topped by only Forest City’s score of 56 points as eight different teams competed in the meet.

POCAHONTAS—Freshman Tyra Schupbach turned in yet another top five showing on Saturday, Oct.1 to highlight the performances of the West Bend-Mallard Wolverines cross-country teams at the Pocahontas Invitational.

The Wolverine youngster finished in fourth place overall on Saturday with her clocking of 20:29.61 as she now has ended up in the top 10 runners in each of the purple-and-gold’s first eight meets this fall.

EAGLE GROVE—The North Union Warriors volleyball squad went on the road in Top of Iowa Conference play on Tuesday, Sept. 27 and came home with a victory over the Eagle Grove Eagles in four sets.

The green-black-and-silver won the opening game by the score of 25-8 before the home team fought back to take the second set by the score of 26-24. The Warriors then won the next game 25-16 and ended the match with a 25-9 win in set number four.

ALGONA—The 40^th annual Tornado Alley Run took place on Saturday, Oct. 1 as a grand total of 74 runners competed in the event.

The male 5K race had a total of 21 runners compete as Joesph Ricklefs was the overall winner with a clocking of 19:36 as Ryley Riggert was the runner-up in 19:40.

Ulfers is having an outstanding senior season as he leads the Bulldogs in rushing after six games with 316 yards in 76 carries and has scored six touchdowns along with nine pass receptions for 139 yards. On defense, Lamorn has registered 60 total tackles, including 27 solo stops and four tackles for loss.

ALGONA—West Bend-Mallard freshmen Tyra Schupbach placed seventh to highlight the performances of the four area girls’ cross-country squads on Monday, Sept. 26 at the annual Algona Invitational held at the River Road Golf Course.

Schupbach crossed the finish line with a clocking of 20:27 while teammate Lilly Morey was 36^th in 22:34 and Lexi Welter took 61^st place with her time of 24:07.

ALGONA—The Algona Bulldog boys’ cross-country team finished as runner-up in the annual Algona Invitational meet held at the River Road Golf Course on Friday, Sept. 26 to highlight the performances of the four area squads.

ALGONA—Caleb Hemphill scored five touchdowns to help lead the Harris-Lake Park Wolves to a 38-14 victory on Friday, Sept. 23 over Bishop Garrigan to spoil the Golden Bears’ homecoming festivities.

The senior caught three touchdown passes from quarterback Lucas Ahrenstorff, returned a kickoff and ran back an interception in the eight-man, district number two contest.

BRITT—North Union scored with a nice drive to start the game but it was all top-ranked West Hancock after that in a 60-27 Class A district victory over the green-black-and-silver on Friday, Sept. 23.

The Eagles led 22-7 after the first 12 minutes of action and took a commanding 46-21 advantage to the locker room at intermission.

RUTHVEN—West Bend-Mallard gave ninth-ranked Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire their toughest battle of the season before bowing to the Titans on Friday, Sept. 24 by the final score of 38-24.

The Wolverines led 16-14 at the conclusion of the first quarter as the home team took a 22-16 advantage to the locker room at halftime and led 30-16 heading into the final 12 minutes of action.

POLK CITY—Fifth-ranked North Polk showed why they are the Class 3A District No. 2 favorites with a 55-28 victory over the Algona Bulldogs on Friday, Sept. 24 in the district opener for both teams.

The Comets took advantage of a couple of short fields in the opening period to take a 14-0 lead and extended their advantage to 27-6 at intermission.
