Ag drainage water recycling potential

AMES, Iowa – What if Iowa farmers could collect field drainage and rainfall to supply the right amount of water at the right time for crop production – and improve water quality in the process? That dream is coming closer to reality, thanks to the emerging technology of drainage water recycling (DWR) already in practice on several Iowa farms.

Scouting for food

Boy Scout Troop #71 collected 2558 items plus one palate of laundry soap for the Kossuth County Food Pantry. In addition to that they collected $1996.85 in cash plus $265 donated gift cards. They bought $460 in gift cards totaling $725 in gift cards they gave to Henry Ricke, Food Pantry director along with another $1104.96 in groceries when the scouts went shopping.

Haase to compete in National SkillsUSA competition in Atlanta, GA

EMMETSBURG, Iowa — Fifteen Iowa Lakes Community College students and four Iowa Lakes Career Academy students demonstrated their exceptional skills and expertise at the 2024 Iowa SkillsUSA competition, which was held on April 26 at Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) in Ankeny, Iowa.

North Central Iowa has been working on Community Health Needs based on data collected for Kossuth County as well as information collected from the Community Health Needs survey that was conducted late last summer.

The priorities that were identified from the survey include: 1) Food Access 2) Mental Health Support and 3) Aging support.

Nominations for Heritage Award open

Nominations will be received from organizations, individuals, or groups; credentials submitted to Founders’ Day Committee, Algona Area Chamber of Commerce, 123 E. State St., Algona, Iowa 50511 by June 1, 2024.

The Heritage Award Committee, composed of a member of the following organizations, will review the nominations: American Association of University Women, Founders’ Day Committee, Lions Club, Morwens Kiwanis, Noon Kiwanis, Rotary and Soroptimist International.

Seasonal cemetery decoration reminders

As Memorial Day approaches, please keep the following decoration guidelines in mind for gravesites located at Riverview or East Lawn Cemetery.

Artificial flowers may be placed on graves from May 15 and to June 15. Decorations will be removed after that date by cemetery staff. If placing a decoration that you intend to keep, please be sure to remove it before June 15.

Hear lowa Veterans' Stories in Their Own Words

Sara Maniscalco Robinson, an lowa National Guard broadcast journalist, will present a program at the Corwith Public Library at 6:30 p.m. on May 24, 2024. She founded the Iowa Veterans Perspective in 2017, and she will share the stories of the veterans she has interviewed as a part of that project. She has indicated an interest in interviewing local veterans.

KCCF Impacts Highlighted in 2023 Annual Report

The Kossuth County Community Foundation’s 2023 annual report is now available on the Community Foundation’s website at www.kossuthccf.org. The report highlights key impacts made and lists funds held with the Community Foundation along with grant-funded projects.
