Women Would like to play golf too

Here's an excerpt from this week's Out of the Past column in the April 22 Advance:
100 years ago: In an editorial published last week in the U.D.M.R. I note with pleasure the writer’s views upon “Golf vs. Women.” After showing the remarkable effect the game has upon the grouch and the fat man he gallantly includes women. Not being a grouch nor an admittedly fat woman I beg to reply. Women would indeed like to play golf. We should enjoy nothing more than to get up with the glorious dawn on a balmy spring morning, run down to the “eat house,” get a nicely prepared breakfast, and then meet the bunch to spin out to the links and drive dull care away.
