Wolverines drop regular season finale

Emmetsburg took the lead early and gradually pulled away in a 53-22 non-conference girls’ basketball victory over the West Bend-Mallard Wolverines in a game played at Emmetsburg on Monday, Feb. 6.
The black-and-gold led 9-2 at the conclusion of the first period before extending its advantage to 23-6 at intermission and also led 41-13 at the end of the third quarter.
West Bend-Mallard connected on 6-of-44 overall field goals for just 13.6 percent, hit 2-of-13 attempts behind the three-point arc for 15.3 percent and converted 8-of-10 foul shots for 80 percent.
Emmetsburg was successful on 17-of-44 shots from the field for 38.6 percent, hit 4-of-17 three-pointers for 23.5 percent and sank 5-of-11 free throws for 45.4 percent.
Trissa Schmidt led the purple-and-gold in scoring with eight points as Abby Zaugg scored six and Taylor Fogarty added four points.  Rounding out the scoring in the contest with two points each was Autumn Mogler and Madison Wickman.
