Willis F. Marshall, age 93, passed from this life on Oct. 17, after struggling with Alzheimer’s for many years. He is now catching up with family, extended family and friends he has not seen in a long while.
Willie and his twin brother William “Bill” were born to George Harold and Ellen Victoria (Smith) Marshall in Rodmanon Sept. 26, 1928. Willie and Bill had three older brothers, Lewis, Robert and Raymond. The Marshall Family moved to Irvington when he was young. He graduated from Algona High School.
On August 1, 1948, he married Norma J. Ramus of Lu Verne. Willie and Norma lived in Algona and raised their two children. Both were born on Dec. 11, but four years apart. Willie and Norma owned Willie’s Carryout for about eight years. Willie then traveled Iowa as an Inspector for the Department of Agriculture until he retired in 1994.
Willie never met a stranger. He was a long-time active member of the Presbyterian Church in Algona, serving as an elder and a trustee. He was a member of the Golden K Kiwanis and served as president for one year. He could always be found spending time with his family and friends, whether playing cribbage, fishing, hunting, or watching The Incredible Hulk with his granddaughter after school. Willie and Norma enjoyed many years of traveling, especially to Cutty’s in Johnston to shop, visit family and camp in their trailer.
Willie is survived by his wife, Norma, of 73 years, their two children, grandchildren: Kristine (Toby) Tyler of Winterset, Quinn Marshall of Baltimore, Md. and Casey Marshall of Germantown, Md.; great-grandchildren: Garrett, Nora and Remy Tyler.
Norma faithfully and lovingly cared for Willie as his Alzheimer’s progressed. In Dec. 2020, they moved to Madison County Assisted Living in Winterset, giving Norma a helping hand and precious time with family members.
