Warriors fall in triple overtime

Lead Summary

It was an instant classic. The longest and perhaps the most exciting game of the 2018 state tournament saw No. 6 Cascade outlast No. 10 North Union 62-53 in triple overtime.
The Class 2A semifinal contest took place at the Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines on Friday, March 2. The game saw six lead changes and was dead-locked on six different occasions.
“I think we just ran out of gas in the third overtime,” said North Union head coach Merle Tigges. “We hung on as long as we could. We pushed the game into overtime, but we just could not get enough baskets at the end.
“Cascade turned it up a notch and did a nice job of making adjustments. They changed the momentum in the second half. They were the state champions in track and are a super-athletic team. Obviously, it is a tough way to lose, but reaching the state tournament has been a great experience overall for these players.”
