A funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 27, 2017, St. John’s Catholic Church, Bancroft.  Visitation will also be held on Friday prior to the mass, from 9:00 to 10:45 a.m. at Oakcrest Funeral Services, Bancroft.
Viola was the ninth child born to Albert Henry Hutchinson and Theresa Martha Windrel on June 27, 1920, at Lone Rock. She was raised on the family farm north of Lone Rock with her eight siblings. She was schooled at St. John the Baptist grade and high school and attended Iowa State College, receiving a teaching degree. She went to the West Coast during WWII and became a Rosie Riveter, working on B52s.
After the war she returned to Iowa and wed Harlan George Marlow on April 27, 1947. They farmed outside Lone Rock, raising four daughters, until retiring to Bancroft in the 1970s. Viola worked many years at Welp’s Hatchery in accounting. She enjoyed traveling to Texas to her winter home in Pharr, Texas, where she filled her time playing shuffle board and enjoyed many of card games with many friends. Viola was an accomplished embroiderer, enjoyed most sporting events and traveled on some lovely trips with family and friends.

Viola is survived by her daughters: Shirley Becker of Montezuma, Teresa Marlow of LaVerne, Calif., Marcia Marlow (Jeff Carey) of Valley Center, Calif., and Donna Marlow (Anthony Burgin) of Greensboro, N.C., Grandchildren: Shane Becker (Laura), Seth, Eric and Leah Becker of Blue Earth, Minn., Jeremy Becker (Amanda), Morgan, Kailey, & Nathan Becker of Ankeny, Brian Becker (Carrie), Ray Becker of Clive, Amber Trewin (Ted), Mia, Molly Trewin of Waukee and Anthony Becker (Dawn), Nyah Becker of Aurora, Colo., Jared King (Carissa), Owen and Imogene King of Chicago, and Ryan King of Seattle and many nieces and nephews.
Viola was preceded in death by her parents; husband, H.G. Marlow; sons-in-law, Mark King and Roger Becker; siblings, Ernest (Leona), Leonora (Frank) Meyer, Marie (Vincent) Ford, Leonard, Lloyd (Emma), Gerald (Mary), Esther (Samuel) McCleish and Harlan.
