Funeral Mass for Verna Kramer was celebrated on Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2017, at 11 a.m. at St. Cecelia Catholic Church with the Rev. Edward Girres officiating. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery.
Verna Mae Kramer was born March 7, 1935, on the family farm near Algona, the daughter of Stephen and Virgie (Halsrud) Loss. Growing up she worked on the farm and attended country school and later graduating from the Algona High School. After her schooling she worked at Wiedenhoff, now Snap-On Tools, as a secretary.
On Feb. 15, 1955, Verna was married to Ernest Kramer at St. Cecelia Catholic Church in Algona. After their marriage they lived and farmed near Algona. While raising their three daughters, Verna would also help with the farm work. They remained on the farm until moving to Algona in June of 1994.
Verna enjoyed dancing, listening to old time music, working puzzle books, gardening, canning. She also enjoyed cooking, especially her fried chicken and fish and was known for all her Christmas candy she would make every year.
Verna died Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2017, at the Medstar Harbor Hospital in Baltimore. She was 81.
She is survived by her daughters, Sandra and Allen Olsen of Lakeville, Minn.; Lori and Benjamin Starks of Blandon, Penn.; Pamela Cusic of Baltimore; four grandchildren, Michael and Thomas Olsen and Alexander and Gabrielle Starks and numerous nieces and nephews and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ernest on May 13, 2011; sisters-in-law, Alvina Thilges, Anna Bormann, Helen Kenne, Evelyn Berendes and Bernadine Kramer; brother-in-law, Ralph Kramer. 
Memorials may be made in her name to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Arrangement were handled by Oakcrest Funeral Services of Algona. Condolences may be left at www.oakcrestfuneralservices.com.
