
North Union nailed 11 three-pointers and squeezed out a 56-55 overtime win over the Bishop Garrigan Golden Bears in a Top of Iowa Conference boys’ basketball contest played in Algona on Thursday, Jan. 12.
The Warriors led early in the game only to see the home team come back and build an eight-point lead with 3:30 to go in the game. But the visitors closed out regulation on an 8-0 run, took the lead early in overtime and never trailed in the extra four minute session.
The green-black-and-silver came out ready to play in the first quarter and led 14-2 at the end of the game’s first eight minutes of action. The black-and-gold scored the first five points of the second stanza to cut the lead to 14-7.
Trent Pedersen nailed a three-pointer for the visitors but the Golden Bears responded with a 9-0 run to get within one point at 17-16 with 2:27 to play in the first half.
