Elliott Hagebock of North Union and T.J. Schnurr of Bishop Garrigan each captured an individual title to highlight the performances of their squads at the annual Top of Iowa Conference track meet May 2.
Bishop Garrigan finished in third place overall in the team race with 64 points while North Union was seventh with 33.5. Lake Mills cruised to the conference title with 192.5 points, and Forest City was a distant second with a total of 114.

Senior Madalyn Cink won both of the distance races to highlight the performances of the Bishop Garrigan Golden Bear girls track team at the annual Top of Iowa Confernce meet May 2.
The black and gold won one other event and finished in second place as a team with 93.3 points. North Union won a pair of events and finished in sixth place overall with 45 points. Forest City claimed the league title with 164 points.

Freshman Samantha Nielsen won the high jump with a leap of 5'0" to highlight the performances of the North Union Warrior girls track team in the 64th running of the Sentinel Relays May 3.
The green, black and silver finished in sixth place in team standings with 54 total points. Martin County West won the team title with 145.5 points.

Taking a pair of first places, the West Bend-Mallard Wolverine girls track squad placed eighth as a team in the Twin Lakes Conference track meet May 2.
The purple and gold scored 42 team points as Emmetsburg was crowned the team champion with 131 points. Alta-Aurelia placed second with a team total of 89.

The Algona Bulldog girls golf squad finished in fourth place at the North Central Conference tournament at the Fort Dodge Country Club May 6.
The red and black compiled a team score of 419 as the Humboldt Wildcats took the league title with a team total of 350. Clear Lake was the runner-up with a score of 368.

The Algona Bulldog boys golf squad finished in seventh place overall at the North Central Conference tournament May 6 at the Mason City Country Club with a team total of 369.
Clear Lake captured the league title with a team score of 322. Webster City was the runner-up with a total of 331, and the Humboldt Wildcats took thrid with a score of 341.

The season opener at the Kossuth County Speedway in Algona attracted 70 cars on Thursday, May 2, but the evening was cut short as the first night of full racing on the track developed some problems in turns one and two. Track official felt it wasn't safe to continue.
The night was halted after the stock cars finished their "A" Feature with the features remaining in both the modifieds and sport mods, which will be made up next week.

Bishop Garrigan won four events and amassed 155 team points to capture the team title at the annual John Larson Relays April 25.
Two other area schools did as well. North Union took third with 72 points, and West Bend-Mallard was fourth with a team total of 54 in the eight-team meet.

The Algona Bulldog boys track squad turned in a great showing at the 110th running of the Drake Relays and came home with five medals from the meet as the distance medley relay placed third, and Trey Engen took fifth in the 1,600-meter run.
The medley unit stopped the watches at 3:31.32 on Friday morning to place third out of the 24 teams that ran the event. The group got combined legs of 46.32 in the two 200s from Samonte Bawden and Skyler Groen to open the race.

The Algona Bulldogs boys track squad hosted the 56th annual Hackbarth Relays April 29 as the team won five events and placed second overall with 138 points. Bishop Garrigan finished in fourth place with 112 points and took first in four events.

A pair of area athletes placed in the top 10 at the annual Drake Relays in Des Moines this past weekend in Bishop Garrigan's TJ Schnurr and Rachel Fehr of West-Bend Mallard.
Schnurr placed eighth in the shot put on Thursday with a best of 53'1 3/4 " on his final throw of the day. He started the day by winning his flight with a toss of 51'11 3/4" on his third try to place ninth as they took nine into the finals.

Samonte Bawden set a new meet record in the 200-meter dash as the Algona Bulldog boys track squad placed third at the Clint Steele Relays on April 23 with 95 points. Bishop Garrigan also competed at the meet and was fifth with 55 team points.
Bawden blazed around the track in the 200-meter in 22.02 to earn his gold medal. Also placing first was the sprint medley relay foursome of Skyler Groen, Patrick David, Wyatt Wegener and Bawden with a new school record of 1:34.35

John Meis of Bishop Garrigan took first in all three distance races to highlight the performances of three area boys track teams at the annual John Larson Relays April 25.
Bishop Garrigan took the team title with a score of 147 points with North Union placing fifth with 58 and West Bend-Mallard seventh in the eight-team field with a team total of 39 points.

Sydney Hoover set a new school record in the long jump to highlight the performance of the Algona Bulldog girls track squad at the Tiger Relays April 26.
The red and black finished as the runner-up in the team standings with 177 points as the Spencer Tigers grabbed the team title with a total of 198 points.

Bishop Garrigan won five events, including four relays, to accumulate 122 points to win the team title in Class B at the annual Indian Relays April 23. North Union also competed in Class B and finished in seventh place with 46 points.
Madelyn Cink was the only individual winner for the black and gold as she won the 1,500-meter run in 5:36.72 and also teamed up with Katie Noonan, Emma Fogarty and Maddie Meister to win the 4 x 800-meter relay with a time of 10:40.91.
