CLEAR LAKE—Ryan Stundahl placed fourth overall to earn all-conference honors to highlight the performances of the Algona Bulldog boys’ cross-country team at the North Central Conference meet held Tuesday, Oct. 13 at the All-Vets Golf Course.

EAGLE GROVE—Quinn Swift of Bishop Garrigan placed second overall on Thursday, Oct. 15 at the Top of Iowa Conference cross-country meet at the Eagle Grove Country Club to highlight the performances of the North Union and Golden Bear boys squads.

Wolverines spikers fall to Pocahontas Area

WEST BEND—Pocahontas Area won a Twin Lakes Conference volleyball match in three straight sets on Thursday, Oct. 15 over West Bend-Mallard Wolverines.
The visitors won the opening game by the score of 25-17 before taking the second set by the count of 25-15 and ended the match with a 25-18 victory in the third game.

Golden Bears cruise in regional opener

ALGONA—Bishop Garrigan cruised past winless Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire in three straight sets on Monday, Oct. 19 in a Class 1A, Region No. 3 volleyball opening round match.
The home team took the opening game by the score of 25-14 before winning the second set by the count of 25-11 and ended the match with a 25-16 victory in game number three.

Poky trips Warriors in four sets

POCAHONTAS—North Union and Pocahontas Area split the first two sets before the home team took the next two games to advance to the Class 2A regional volleyball quarterfinal round with a four set victory over the Warriors on Monday, Oct. 19.

Wildcats too much for Algona

HUMBOLDT—Algona had a tough assignment in the opening round of the Class 3A regional volleyball tournament as they faced 11th-ranked Humboldt and fell to the talented Wildcats in three straight matches on Monday, Oct. 19.
The home team was focused early as they took the opening game by the score of 25-6. The blue-and-gold won the second set by the count of 25-14 and used a late run breaking away from a 15-15 deadlock to take the third game by the score of 25-20.
 

Golden Bears finish 3rd in league

Bishop Garrigan wrapped up third place in the Top of Iowa Conference final standings with a league victory over the North Iowa Lady Bison on Monday, Oct. 12, in three straight sets.
The black-and-gold ended up 6-2 in conference matches and was 21-7 in games played this fall in the league. On Monday, the Golden Bears connected on 67 of 79 serves as a team for 84.8 percent with 10 service aces.

Bulldogs swamp Okoboji, 57-21

After not playing the previous week due to a COVID-19 situation, the Algona Bulldogs football team did not show any signs of rust by rolling to a 57-21 district win over the Okoboji Pioneers on Friday, Oct. 9.
Trevon Smith scored four first-half touchdowns as the red-and-black built a 37-7 advantage at intermission by rolling up 280 yards in the opening half.
