Bulldogs runner-up at Hackbarth Relays
Denver won the final event of the night to sneak past the Algona Bulldogs to win the annual Hackbarth Relays held in Algona on Tuesday, May 2.
Denver totaled 109 to win the meet as the red-and-black won five events and scored 104 team points to finish as the runner-ups. Bishop Garrigan also competed in the nine-team field and placed sixth with 47 points.
Austin Chase was a double winner for Algona as he won the 400-meter dash in 50.95 and took the 400-meter hurdles with his clocking of 56.03, both of them his season-bests.
The other gold medal winners for the red-and-black were Dominick Etherington in the shot put with a toss of 53’ 11” along with Samonte Bawden in the 200-meter dash in 22.51 and Trey Engen in the 1.600-meter run with his winning time of 4:35.60.
The lone silver medal winners for the Bulldogs was the 4 x 100-meter relay crew of Patrick Clark, John Kpor, Nick Stein and Bawden in a season-best 45.55.
