Wild rally leads to Bulldogs’ first victory

HUMBOLDT—Trailing 9-0 after four innings of play, the Algona Bulldogs softball squad roared back to rally for a thrilling 13-9 North Central Conference win on Wednesday, May 29 over the Humboldt Wildcats.

The red-and-black plated four runs in the top of the sixth inning and tacked on four more in the seventh to tie the game where they scored four more tallies in the eighth stanza for the victory.

WB-M softball picks up a pair of wins

STORM LAKE—The West Bend-Mallard Wolverine junior varsity softball squad scored 44 runs in a doubleheader sweep over the Storm Lake St. Mary’s Panthers on Wednesday, May 29.

The purple-and-gold took a high scoring 29-20 victory in the opening seven-inning contest and came back with a 15-8 three-inning win in the second game.

Big inning keeps Golden Bears undefeated

ALGONA—Bishop Garrigan erupted for 11 runs in the bottom of the third inning to rally from a 1-0 deficit and went onto an 11-1 Top of Iowa Conference softball victory over the Garner-Hayfield/Ventura Cardinals on Wednesday, May 29.

The big blow in the frame came from Abbie Capesius as the Golden Bear senior blasted a grand-slam home run, her third of the season.

North Union ends three-game losing streak with 8-2 win

LAKE MILLS—North Union halted a three-game losing streak on Monday, June 3 with an 8-2 Top of Iowa Conference softball victory over the Lake Mills Bulldogs.

Ainsley Ulrich was sharp in the circle as she pitched all seven innings. She allowed two unearned runs on six hits with a season-high 16 strikeouts and issued five base-on-balls.

Algona pounds Eagle Grove 25-4

ALGONA—Algona erupted for 12 runs in the first inning and 11 more in the second stanza in a 25-4, four-inning rout of the Eagle Grove Eagles on Thursday, May 30 in a non-conference baseball game.

The red-and-black pounded out 14 hits in the victory as Logan Lentz led the way with four hits, including a two-bagger. Tate Garman contributed two singles and a double with Aiden Ulrich having a single and a double.

Walders, Henderson combine to no-hit Broncos

BELMOND—North Union raced out to a big early advantage and never looked back in an 11-0, six-inning Top of Iowa Conference baseball victory over the Belmond-Klemme Broncos on Wednesday, May 29.

The green-black-and-silver plated three runs in the first, third and sixth frames and added two more in the second inning in the conference rout.

Warriors cruise to 11-1 non-conference victory

BANCROFT—North Union pounded out 18 hits in an 11-1 six-inning, non-conference win over the Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire Titans on Tuesday, May 28.

Drew Henderson ripped four hits, including a double as Matt Merrill added three singles along with two hits each from Greyson Colegrove, Danyal Fothergill, Caden Walders and Cole Nicoson.

Bishop Garrigan wins in 10 innings

EAGLE GROVE—Eagle Grove’s Jake Jeske and Daniel Meis of Bishop Garrigan linked up in a good old fashion pitcher’s duel on Wednesday, May 28 as the black-and-gold outlasted the Eagles 3-1 in 10 innings.

Meis hurled 8.1 innings with one unearned run on just two hits while striking out 14 batters and walked a pair of Eagle hitters.

Jeske was almost as sharp, allowing one earned run on eight hits with 11 strikeouts, issued no walks and hit a batter.

Lake Mills tops North Union 6-2

LAKE MILLS—Lake Mills jumped out to an early 3-0 advantage and made that lead hold up in a 6-2 Top of Iowa Conference baseball victory over the North Union Warriors on Monday, June 3.

The Bulldogs scored twice in the opening stanza, added one in the bottom of the third and tacked on three insurance runs in the fourth frame as the Warriors plated their only two runs in the top of the fourth inning.

Golden Bears cruise in battle of league leaders

EAGLE GROVE—In a contest of the last two unbeaten squads in the Top of Iowa Conference softball standings, Bishop Garrigan left no doubt who is the cream of the crop right now with a 17-4, three-inning romp over the Eagle Grove Eagles on Tuesday, May 28.

The black-and-gold scored five times in both the first and second innings and ended the contest early with seven tallies in the third as the Eagles scored all four of their runs in the bottom of the first inning.

North Union rallies for 6-5 victory

BELMOND—North Union scored four runs in their final two at bats to rally for an exciting 6-5 Top of Iowa Conference softball victory over the Belmond-Klemme Broncos.

Trailing 4-2 in the top of the sixth inning, the green-black-and-silver scored three runs in the stanza to take a 5-4 advantage as each squad scored once in the final frame.

Beth Streuber led the Warrior offense with three hits, including a two-bagger while teammate Shallie Walders added a single and a double.

North Union hands Titans 15-5 loss

SWEA CITY—North Union scored six times in the opening frame and never looked back in a 15-5, five-inning non-conference softball victory over the Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire Titans on Tuesday, May 28.

Brylie Deim led the green-black-and-silver offense with a single, a double and a triple while teammate Ainsley Ulrich also had three hits, including a two-bagger and Beth Streuber added a pair of singles.

Golden Bears roll past Bison 16-1

ALGONA—Bishop Garrigan exploded for 10 runs in the bottom of the second inning and cruised on Monday, June 3 to a 16-1, four-inning Top of Iowa Conference baseball victory over the North Iowa Bison.

The black-and-gold also plated two runs in the first, third and fourth frames in the league rout as the Bison scored their only run of the game in the top of the fourth stanza.

North Union routs Cougars 23-3

MANSON—North Union pounded Manson Northwest Webster 23-3 on Thursday, May 30 in a non-conference baseball contest.

The green-black-and-silver tallied eight times in the opening frame, tacked on two more in the second, six in the third and ended the contest with seven runs in the fourth as the home team tallied single runs in the second, third and fourth stanza in the rout.
