Wolverine boys 4th at Newell

NEWELL—A trio of second-place showings highlighted the performances of the West Bend-Mallard Wolverine boys track squad on Friday, April 23 at the Newell-Fonda Co-Ed Relays.
The purple-and-gold totaled a team score of 105 points during the night’s 19 events as Southeast Valley earned the team title with a total of 166 points.

AHS boys win two events at Poky

POCAHONTAS—Winning a pair of individual events, the Algona Bulldog boys track squad finished in fifth place in Class A with 84 on Friday, April 23 at the Pocahontas Relays.
Caleb Omdahl won the high jump for the red-and-black with a leap of 5’ 8” and Ryan Stundahl took first in the 3,200-meter run with his clocking of 10:35.80 to win gold medals.

Bulldogs win BGHS Relays, Golden Bears third

    ALGONA—Hosting a track meet on the new surface for the first time, the Bishop Garrigan Golden Bear girls track squad hosted the annual BGHS Relays on their own track on Friday, April 16 with eight different schools competing.
Algona won the team title with 153 points on the strength of winning eight events as Moriah Knapp was an individual triple winner while the host school won four events and placed third overall with 130 points.
 

WB-M boys compete in Manson

MANSON—The West Bend-Mallard Wolverine boys track team participated in the Emily Markert Co-Ed Relays on Thursday, April 15 and finished in 11th place overall with a team score of 36 points.
The top finish for the purple-and-gold came in the 4 x 200-meter relay were the group of Klayton Jones, Kaden Van Whke, Tyler Banwart and Noah Link ended up in third place with a clocking of 1:41.34.

Stundahl double winner at Midget Relays

ESTHERVILLE—The Algona Bulldog boys track team placed second overall and Ryan Stundahl was an individual double winner to highlight the performances for the red-and-black on Friday, April 16 at the 99th annual Midget Relays.
The Bulldogs finished as the runner-up in Class B with a team total of 127 points as Spirit Lake took home the team title amassing a team score of 157 points during the evening.

Warrior boys win Midget Relays, Bishop Garrigan finishes third

ESTHERVILLE—The North Union Warrior boys team won 11 events and placed first as a team in Class B in the 99th annual running of the Midget Relays on Friday, April 16.
The green-black-and-silver amassed 152 points during the evening to top the six-team field as the Bishop Garrigan Golden Bears ended up in third place with a team score of 110 points.

Wolverine golf drops league matches

SAC CITY—The West Bend-Mallard Wolverine boys and girls golf teams dropped a Twin Lakes Conference match on Thursday, April 15 at the Sac City Golf and Country Club.
East Sac County defeated the purple-and-gold boys by the score of 178-188 while the Raider girls topped the Wolverines by the final count of 245-283.

Warrior girls golf wins triangular

ARMSTRONG—The North Union Warrior girls golf team swept a non-conference golf triangular on Thursday, April 15 at the Country Greens Golf Course over the Algona Bulldogs and Estherville-Lincoln Central.
The green-black-and-silver had a team score of 206 to top the Bulldogs’ score of 250 and Estherville-Lincoln Central finished in third place with a total of 272.

ELC tops AHS, NU boys golfers

ESTHERVILLE—In a non-conference boys golf triangular held on Thursday, April 15, at the Estherville Country Club, Estherville-Lincoln Central defeated both the North Union and Algona squads.

Algona 1 trapshooters win event

On Wednesday, April 14 at the Izaak Walton League, the Algona and Bishop Garrigan High School squads hosted four other squads for a meet. The Algona High Team No. 1 had the high score of the day with a total of 210.

Golden Bears girls golfers remain perfect, boys win tiebreaker

BELMOND—The Bishop Garrigan Golden Bear girls golf squad remained perfect on the year with a pair of Top of Iowa Conference wins on Friday, April 16 at the Belmond Country Club.
The black-and-gold improved to 7-0 overall and 5-0 in league matches as they had a team score of 183 to top Garner-Hayfield/Ventura’s total of 212 and North Iowa did not have enough golfers for a team score.
 

Three area girls qualify for Drake Relays

ALGONA—A trio of area girls tracksters have qualified for the 111th running of the annual Drake Relays in Des Moines on Thursday, April 22. Sam Nielson of North Union, Rachel Fehr of West Bend-Mallard and Audi Crooks of Bishop Garrigan will all compete with some of the best track-and-field athletes in the nation in the three day meet at Drake Stadium.

Wolverines boys wear Southeast Valley track crown

GOWRIE—West Bend-Mallard won seven events and cruised to the team title in Class B on Monday, April 12, at the Southeast Valley Invitational with 151 points as Gilbert placed second with a team total of 95.

E-LC girls edge Bulldogs in opener

ALGONA—By the slimmest of margin in the 2021 season opener on Monday, April 12, at the River Road Golf Club, Estherville-Lincoln Central nipped the Algona Bulldog girls golf squad by the score of 260-261.
The Bulldogs’ Carlie Yokimishyn was the medalist of the meet.

ARMSTRONG—Both the Bishop Garrigan Golden Bears boys and girls golf teams swept a pair of Top of Iowa Conference matches at the Country Greens Golf Course on Monday, April 12.

HUMBOLDT—Traveling south down Highway 169, the Algona Bulldog boys track team competed in the annual Charlie Bunn Relays on Friday, April 9.
The red-and-black totaled 63 team points during the evening to finish in the sixth place.
