AHS girls win two events at NCC meet

HUMBOLDT—The Algona Bulldog girls’ track squad won a pair of events at the North Central Conference meet as the red-and-black finished in third place overall in the team standings with 116 points.
Winning gold medals for the Bulldogs were Dionna Van Gorkum in the high jump with a leap of 4’ 8” and the 4 x 200-meter relay foursome of Ava Henry, Radaisyia Thomas, Kayla Thompson and Alexa Chase in 1:53.54.

Bulldogs finish 5th in NCC meet

HAMPTON—The Algona Bulldog boys’ track team tied for fifth place with 62 points on Thursday, May 6 at the annual North Central Conference track meet.

WB-M boys take third at Sioux Central Co-Ed Relays

SIOUX RAPIDS—The West Bend-Mallard Wolverine boys’ track team scored a total of 121 points in the 19 events held on Monday, May 10 at the Sioux Central Co-Ed Relays to place third overall in eight-team field.
The lone win for the purple-and-gold came in the 3,200-meter run where Max Fehr crossed the finish line in 11:33.86.

Algona 2, Algona 1 win local trapshooting tournaments

EMMETSBURG—The Algona and Bishop Garrigan High School trapshooting teams competed at a meet on Saturday, May 8 at Sportsman Park hosted by the Emmetsburg Hot Shots with nine different teams battling.
First place went to the Algona High Team # 2 of Chase Roof, Wyatt Struecker, Declan Braun, Robert Foster and Ethan Riggert with a score of 228.

Opening night attracts 66 cars to Kossuth County Speedway

ALGONA—A cool spring night drew a total of 66 cars on Thursday, May 6, on the opening evening of dirt track racing at the Kossuth County Speedway in front a nice crowd of brave fans that endured the cool temperatures.
The hobby stock class had the biggest car of the evening with a total of 15 cars while both the modified and sport mods class each had a crew of 13 cars.

Bishop Garrigan boys win Pocahontas Relays

POCAHONTAS—Amassing a total of 118 points during the evening, the Bishop Garrigan Golden Bear boys track team won the title in Class B on Friday, April 23 at the annual Pocahontas Relays.
Despite winning just one event, the black-and-gold used eight runner-up finishes to score enough points to top the six-team field.

Wartick runner-up at Algona Invitational

   ALGONA—James Wartick finished in second place overall to highlight the performances of the Algona Bulldog boys golf team in the Algona Invitational on Saturday, April 24 at the Algona Country Club as five teams competed in the meet.
The Bulldogs ended up in fourth place in the team standings with their total of 389 as Pocahontas Area was the team champion with a 370 and Clarion-Goldfield was runner-up with a score of 383.

Golden Bears sweep NI, WH

BRITT—The Bishop Garrigan Golden Bear boys golf team swept a Top of Iowa Conference match played on Monday, April 26 at the Britt Country Club.
The black-and-gold boys amassed a team score of 172 to place first, five strokes better than North Iowa’s total of 177 and West Hancock was third with a 207.
Bishop Garrigan’s Kyle Schaaf took the runner-up medal with his nine-hole total of 40.

Wolverine teams cruise to loop win

WEST BEND—Both the West Bend-Mallard boys and girls golf squads cruised to a Twin Lakes Conference match win on Monday, April 26 at the West Bend Country Club over the Manson Northwest Webster Cougars.
The purple-and-gold boys defeated the Cougars by the score of 181-216 on Monday as the Wolverine girls topped the orange-and-blue by the score of 240-272.

Golden Bear girls remain perfect, NU beats Forest City

LIVERMORE—The Bishop Garrigan Golden Bear girls golf team remained perfect on the year at 9-0 with a two victories on Thursday, April 22 at the Spring Valley Golf Course against a pair of Top of Iowa Conference foes.
The black-and-gold compiled a team score of 192 as North Union finished second with a team total of 242 and Forest City was third with a score of 294.

AHS girls drop NCC triangular

HUMBOLDT—Hitting the road for a North Central Conference match, the Algona Bulldog girls golf squad dropped a league triangular meet on Friday, April 23 at the Humboldt Country Club.
Carlie Yokmishyn had the low round for Algona with a 52 as both Greta Lampe and Natalie Walker added a score of 58. Isabelle Gibbs carded a 61 with Faith Zeller contributing a 64 and Lydia Erpelding rounded out the scores with a 67.
 

WB-M girls win four events at Newell

NEWELL—Placing first in four different events, the West Bend-Mallard Wolverine girls track squad placed sixth with 59 points on Friday, April 23 at the Newell-Fonda Co-Ed Relays.
Earning individual gold medals for the purple-and-gold were Julia Fehr in the 1,500-meter run with her clocking of 5:44.30 and Rachel Fehr in the 800-meter run in 2:26.87.

Golden Bears girls finish third at Estherville, North Union 7th

ESTHERVILLE—Winning three events, the Bishop Garrigan Golden Bear girls track team placed third overall on Thursday, April 22 at the E-LC Relays.
The black-and-gold amassed 72 points during the evening with North Union ending up in seventh place with 42 points as the Spencer Tigers won the team title with a total of 160 points.

Bulldog girls third at WC

WEBSTER CITY—After winning a pair of events, the Algona Bulldog girls track team finished in third place with 112 points at the Lady Lynx Invitational on Thursday, April 22.
Gold medal winners for the red-and-black were A’Lailah Perry in the discus with a winning throw of 95’ 2” and the 4 x 200-meter relay quartet of Alexa Chase, Ava Henry, Dionna Van Gorkum and Ella Lawson in 1:53.21.

Algona #1 trapshooting team places first at E-burg

EMMETSBURG—The Algona and Bishop Garrigan High School trapshooting squads competed against eight other groups on April 17 in a meet hosted by the Emmetsburg Hot Shots.
The Algona No. 1 team had the high team score of the day with a total of 228. Members of that team included James Burma, Cole Harms, Declan Braun, Cohen Reffer and Hunter Thilges, 

Prochniak double winner at Bison Relays

BUFFALO CENTER—North Union sophomore Bryer Prochniak was a double winner at the annual Bison Relays held on Thursday, April 24. The green-black-and-silver scored 61 points to place sixth in the 10-team field and Bishop Garrigan ended up in seventh place with 31 points.
