Bishop Garrigan girls claim state golf title

This Bishop Garrigan girls golf team won the Class 1A state championship Wednesday, June 2, completing the second day of play and winning by 74 shots over second-place Central Lyon. Three Golden Bears finished in the top eight individually.

Streit powers AHS past E-Hawks

ALGONA—Senior Wyatt Streit blasted a home run and a triple to drive in three runs while teammate Miles Goche pitched six strong innings to lead the Algona Bulldogs baseball team to a 13-3, six inning non-conference victory on Wednesday, May 26 over the Emmetsburg E-Hawks.
The E-Hawks got the board with single runs in both the first and second innings to take an early 2-0 advantage but Goche stranded five runners in those two frames that proved to be huge later in the contest.

Bulldogs outslug BGHS 21-13

LAKE MILLS—In a wild Top of Iowa Conference softball contest that featured 34 runs and 19 hits on Friday, May 28, the Lake Mills Bulldogs outslugged the Bishop Garrigan Golden Bears by the final score of 21-13.
The visitors scored four runs in the first frame and tacked on two more on the second inning for an early 6-0 advantage but Lake Mills erupted for 10 runs in the bottom of the frame for a 10-6 lead.

Warriors improve to 3-0

FOREST CITY—North Union pounded out 10 hits and Emily Meyer twirled a three-inning no-hitter on Friday, May 28, in a 14-0 Top of Iowa Conference softball victory over the Forest City Indians.
The green-black-and-silver scored six times in the first frame and tacked on eight more runs in the third inning in the shortened contest. Meyer fanned six Indians in the win from the chalked circle.

Bulldogs rally, win NCC opener

CLARION—Trailing 3-2, the Algona Bulldogs softball team scored four runs in the sixth inning and added five more in the seventh to rally for an 11-4 victory over Clarion-Goldfield on Friday, May 28, in their North Central Conference opener.

Golden Bears earn huge league road win

LAKE MILLS—Bishop Garrigan went on the road on Friday, May 28, in a key early season Top of Iowa Conference baseball contest and came home a big 6-4 win in nine innings over one of the conference favorites in the Lake Mills Bulldogs.

FOREST CITY—North Union out-hit Forest City seven to six but the Indians make their hits count in an 11-1 Top of Iowa Conference baseball win on Friday, May 28, over the green-black-and-silver.

WB-M boys pound out 13 hits in win

    LYTTON—One night after being shutout and limited to just three hits, the West Bend-Mallard Wolverines baseball team exploded for 13 hits in an 18-4 victory on Wednesday, May 25 over the South Central Calhoun Titans.
The purple-and-gold opened the game’s scoring with three runs in the top of the first inning only to see South Central Calhoun come back in the bottom of the frame to deadlock the contest at 3-3.

Wolverines drop 12-10 road contest

LYTTON—West Bend-Mallard pounded out 14 hits and scored 10 runs but fell just short on Wednesday, May 26 in a 12-10 softball loss to the South Central Calhoun Titans.

Crooks, Fehr, Joyce are state champions

Rachel Fehr of West Band-Mallard won two state championships, and Molly Joyce and Audi Crooks of Bishop Garrigan each won an event at the Iowa State Track and Field Meet at Drake Stadium May 20-22. Get all of the results in the May 27 edition of the Advance.

Schaaf, Fothergill, Cummins earn all-conference honors at Top of Iowa tourney

   LAKE MILLS—Kyle Schaaf of Bishop Garrigan along with Chase Cummins and Teagan Fothergill of North Union recorded three of the 10 scores of the day on Monday, May 10 at the Top of Iowa Conference West tournament played at the Rice Lake Golf Club to earn all-conference honors.
The black-and-gold finished in sixth place overall in the team standings with a team score of 369 with the Warriors placing second a score of 348 as Lake Mills cruised to the title with a team total of 312.

Prochniak double winner at Top of Iowa meet for Warriors; NU 5th, BGHS 7th

EAGLE GROVE—North Union sophomore Bryer Prochniak was a double winner at the Top of Iowa Conference boys’ track meet on Thursday, May 6.
The green-black-and-silver finished in fifth place overall in the team standings with 61 points while Bishop Garrigan ended up in seventh place in the nine-team field with a team score of 38 points.

AHS girls place 7th in NCC meet

MASON CITY—The Algona Bulldog girls’ golf squad finished in seventh place overall at the North Central Conference tournament played at the Mason City Country Club on Monday, May 10.
The red-and-black had a team total of 464 during the day as the Clear Lake Lions captured the 2021 conference title with their team score of 355.

Wartick’s 36 lead AHS boys to victory over WB-M, North Union

WEST BEND—Senior James Wartick fired an even-par round of 36 to lead the Algona Bulldog boys’ golf team to a non-conference win over North Union and West Bend-Mallard on Friday, May 7 at the West Bend Country Club.
The red-and-black totaled a season-low team score of 171 to place first as North Union finished in second place with a team total of 181 and West Bend-Mallard was third with a 185.

Burns, BGHS girls claim league title, NU second

GARNER—Annie Burns had the lowest score of the day overall to claim the medalist honor as the Bishop Garrigan Golden Bear girls’ golf squad rolled to the Top of Iowa Conference title on Monday, May 10 played the Garner Country Club.
The black-and-gold had a team total of 349 to capture the 2021 title to top the defending champion in North Union, who ended up in second place with a team total of 360.

Rachel Fehr wins three events at Twin Lakes Conference meet

LAKE CITY—Senior Rachel Fehr was a triple winner to highlight the performances of the West Bend-Mallard Wolverine girls’ track squad on Tuesday, May 5 at the Twin Lakes Conference meet.
The purple-and-gold placed fifth overall in the team standings.
