WB-M boys’ golfers end season at sectionals

PRIMGHAR—The 2022 golf season came to an end for the West Bend-Mallard Wolverine boys’ golf team on Wednesday, May 11 at the Primghar Golf & Country Club in the Class 1A Sectional tournament.

The purple-and-gold finished in seventh place with a team total of 429. The two district team qualifiers were Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire with a score of 345 and George-Little Rock with a total of 367.

Bulldog boys track team are NCC runner-ups

IOWA FALLS—Algona won three events and finished second in the team standings at the annual North Central Conference boys’ track meet held on Thursday, May 5.

The red-and-black scored a total of 110 points that was only topped by Clear Lake’s score of 150 as the Lions won the conference title for the second straight year.

North Union boys’ golfers league runner-up

GARNER—North Union finished second and Bishop Garrigan was fifth at the annual Top of Iowa Conference boys’ golf tournament played at the Garner Golf & Country Club on Monday, May 9.

Lake Mills earned the 2022 Top of Iowa Conference championship with a team score of 334 as North Union was the runner-up with a total of 354 and Bishop Garrigan was fifth at 382.

Morphew wins 400 hurdles at conference meet

FOREST CITY—Carter Morphew of North Union won the 400-meter hurdle crown to highlight the performances of the Warrior and Bishop Garrigan boys’ track teams at the Top of Iowa Conference meet held on Thursday, May 5.

Wolverine boys play in Twin Lakes golf tourney

FORT DODGE—Competing against 11 other Twin Lakes Conference schools, the West Bend-Mallard Wolverine boys’ golf team competed on Wednesday, May 4 at the conference golf tournament played at the Lakeside Golf Course.

Warrior boys top North Iowa

BUFFALO CENTER—North Union had the top three scores of the day in a Top of Iowa Conference boys’ golf dual meet played on Tuesday, May 3 at the Gruis Recreation Area.

The green-black-and-silver won the league match with a winning team total of 165 that topped North Iowa’s final team score of 192.

Hoch places 19th at conference meet

STORM LAKE—Senior Ryan Hoch of West Bend-Mallard placed 19th overall of the 68 golfers that compete in the Twin Lakes Conference girls’ golf tournament played at the Lake Creek Golf Course on Wednesday, May 4.

West Bend-Mallard finished in 12th place in the team standings with a team total of 582 as Newell-Fonda claimed the 2022 Twin Lakes Conference title with a team score of 412.

BGHS girls’ golf squad tops Algona

LIVERMORE—In a non-conference girls’ golf match between the two cross-town rivals, the Bishop Garrigan Golden Bears defeated the Algona Bulldogs on Thursday, May 5 at the Spring Valley Golf Course by the score of 185-208.

Annie Burns of Bishop Garrigan earned the meet’s medalist honors with her nine-hole score of 41 as teammate Ava Eisenbarth was the runner-up medalist with a round of 43.

Golden Bear boys edge Algona boys golfers

LIVERMORE—The Bishop Garrigan Golden Bear boys’ golf team earned a narrow non-conference match victory on Thursday, May 5 at the Spring Valley Golf Course over the cross-town rival Algona Bulldogs.

The black-and-gold won a tight match by six strokes by the score of 185-191. Ethan Kuper of Bishop Garrigan was the medalist of the meet with a four over par 40 while teammate Jacob Leerar was the runner-up medalist with a score of 46.

Trap-shoot teams host meet

ALGONA—The Algona and Bishop Garrigan High School trap-shoot squads hosted a meet at the Izaak Walton Club on Wednesday, May 4 with seven schools or clubs competing.

The first place team was the Algona 7 team with a score of 235. Members of the winning squad included James Burma, Cole Harms, Nick Christensen, Chase Roof and Hunter Thilges. Second place went to the Emmet County Clay Busters team while the Emmetsburg Hot Shots 9 took third place.

Algona Bulldog girls’ golfers place fifth at NCC meet

LIVERMORE—A fifth place showing is what the Algona Bulldog girls’ golf squad accomplished on Monday, May 9 in the North Central Conference tournament played a the Spring Valley golf course.

The red-and-black was fifth in the eight-team field with a team total of 448 as Clear Lake cruised to the league title with a team score of 352.

WB-M boys 2nd in 4 x 800 relay

MANSON—A second place showing in the 4 x 800-meter relay highlighted the performances of the West Bend-Mallard Wolverine boys’ track team at the Twin Lakes Conference meet on Tuesday, May 3.

The purple-and-gold finished in eighth place in the 12-team field with a team score of 37 points as Southeast Valley won the conference title with a team total of 152.5 points.

Algona boys play in NCC tourney

FORT DODGE—In their last tune-up before the Class 3A sectional tournament, the Algona Bulldog boys’ golf team played in the North Central Conference tournament on Monday, May 9 at the Fort Dodge Country Club.

The red-and-black finished the day with a team total of 415 to end up in eighth place overall as the Clear Lake Lions took the conference title with a team total of 337.

Burns, BGHS girls win conference title

FOREST CITY—Annie Burns won the individual crown and her teammates combined with her to win the 2022 Top of Iowa Conference tournament on Monday, May 9 played at the Bear Creek golf course.

The black-and-gold amassed a team total of 374 to win the conference title as Garner-Hayfield/Ventura took second with a 374. All six Golden Bear golfers finished in the top 16 to earn all-conference status.

Wolverine girls win 4 x 8 relay

PAULLINA—Earning gold medals in the 4 x 800-meter relay, the West Bend-Mallard Wolverine girls’ track squad participated in the Wolverine Relays on Thursday, May 5.

The purple-and-gold amassed 40 points during the evening’s 19 events to finish in sixth place as Alta-Aurelia edged out Twin Lakes Conference champion Sioux Central by one point 117-116.

Jones, Montag earn gold medals for WB-M boys

PAULLINA—The West Bend-Mallard Wolverine boys’ track team won a pair of events at the Wolverine Relays on Thursday, May 5.

The purple-and-gold ended up in fifth place in the seven-team field in the team standings with 70 points as Unity Christian won the team title with a team total of 148 points.

Earning gold medals for the Wolverines were Klayton Jones in the 200-meter dash in 24.58 and Collin Montag in the 1,600-meter run with a time of 4:54.86.
