NU boys track returns 7 lettermen

A nice group of seven returning lettermen are back for the 2019 edition of the North Union Warrior boys track squad. This year's team of 12 is made up of one senior, three juniors, five sophomores and three freshmen.
The Warriors finished in sixth place at the Class 1A state track meet last season, with 32 points; the team was runner-up at the district meet in Sioux Rapids with 84 and took third at the Top of iowa Conference meet in Lake Mills with 97 team points.

Six letter winners back for girls golf

A nice gropu of six letter winners returns for the North Union Warrior girls golf squad as they head into the 2019 campaign.
Carole Bernhard returns for her seventh year as the head coach for the green, black and silver.

Warrior boys golf 16 players strong

The 2019 edition of the North Union Warror boys golf team returns six lettermen as the squad heads into the season, and Wes Gibbs will return for his second year as the squad's head coach.
This spring green,black and silver group of 16 young men consists of five seniors, no juniors, six sophomores and five freshmen.

Talented WB-M seeks more success

After placing sixth in last year's Class 1A state track meet, the West Bend-Mallard Wolverine girls track squad is looking for even more success in the spring of 2019 on the track under the direction of veteran Head Coach Eldon Mc Kimmey.
The purple and gold scored 16 ponts in the state meet in Des Moines. the Wolverines also placed eighth at the regional meet with a team total of 44 points and finished in fifth place at the Twin Lakes Conference meet with 66 team points.

WB-M has 7 lettermen returning

A nice group of seven lettermen return for the 2019 edition of the West Bend-Mallard Wolverine boys track team. This year's squad numbers 15 strong with three seniors, six juniors, four sophomores and a pair of freshmen.
The purple and gold placed 13th at the Class 1A district meet in Sioux Rapids with a total of 17 points and took 12th at the Twin Lakes Conference meet in Sioux Rapids with a team score of two points. The Wolverines will again be coached by Jerry Vanderhors.

WB-M girls feature six golfers

After having just one young woman out for golf last spring, the 2019 edition of the West Bend-Mallard Wolverine girls golf team has expanded to a grand total of six girls this year.
The purple and gold squad consists of one senior and five freshmen, and the team will be coached by th legendary golfing guru, Koy Goodchild.

A pair of lettermen will return as the West Bend-Mallard Wolverines boys golf team moves forward into the 2019 season with head Coach Koy Goodchild returning as the squad's lead mentor.

Rachel Fehr wins 400 at Gowrie

Class 1A state runner Rachel Fehr of West Bend-Mallard opened the 2019 season with a win in the 400-meter dash with her time of 1:01.74 to highlight the performances of the putple and gold at the Richard Ryan Relays on Monday, April 1.

Repeat winner in alumni tourney

A nice contingent of 11 teams and 98 players participated in the 17th annual Algona Recreation's Algona/Bishop Garrigan alumni backetball tournament played on the campus of Algona High School on Friday, March 29 and Saturday, March 30.

Great showing by AHS boys at ISU

They only competed in two events, but the Algona Bulldogs boys track squad turned in three great performances at the Iowa State University High School Invitational, as 116 teams competed on Tuesday, March 19.

Engen wins 1,600 at Humboldt

The Algona Bulldog boys track squad took one runner to the Nielsen Family Co-Ed Indoor Meet on Thrusday, March 21 and came back home with an individual title in the meet.

Kossuth Racing just around the turn

With the snow finally melting and the frost slowly coming out of the ground, the 2019 racing season at the Kossuth County Speedway in Algona cannot be far away.
The first action, weather permitting, on the oval is scheduled for Thursday, April 26, as there will be a test and tune night for drivers to get some of the kinks out of their cars before the official seson begins.

Prep trapshooting team has six home meets

The 2019 edition of the Algona and Bishop Garrigan High School trapshooting squads have a schedule of 12 meets this season, including six at home.
The schools will combine this spring to have 52 young men and women out for the team, with 23 of those shooters being returning letter winners as they prepare for their season opener at home on Saturday, April 6.

Four players back on boys all-area squad

Four of the five players named to the first-team all-area squad return from last year's unit.
Cade Winkel and T.J. Schnurr of Bishop Garrigan return to the first team for the third straight year as both Angelo Winkel of Bishop Garrigan and Wyatt Wegener of Algona are repeaters from last winter.

AHS dancers perform at girls state

Thursday, Feb. 28, five Algona High School dance team members traveled to Des Moines to participate in the All Iowa Honor Dance Team.
They were: Cearra Crosser, Maddie Garry, Dionna VanGorkom, Sadie Besch and Makenna VanZante.

Wahoos compete in state swim meet

The Algona Wahoos swim team competed in the Iowa State YMCA swim meet held in Marshalltown on Saturday and Sunday, March 2-3.
The Wahoos sent 12 swimmers to compete individually and seven relay teams as 11 individuals turned in top-10 finishes, and three of the relays ended up in the top-10 place winners.
