Golden Bears sweep conference match

A good balance from the top four golfers led the Bishop Garrigan boys golf team to a Top of Iowa Conference victory on Monday, April 22 at the Spring Valley Golf Course.
The black and gold compiled a team score of 183 to win the match, as West Hancock finished in second place with a total of 203, and Forest City was third with a score of 215.

NU boys split top of Iowa match

The North Union Warrior boys golf squad split a Top of Iowa Conference match on Monday, April 22 at the Rice Lake Golf Course.
Lake Mills placed first in the conference match with a team total of 165, as the green, black and silver placed second with a team score of 192, with Eagle Grove right behind them in third place with a total of 195.

BGHS wins league match

The Bishop Garrigan Golden Bear girls golf squad won a Top of Iowa Conference match at Spring Valley Gold Course on Monday, April 22.
The black and gold had a team total of 180 to easily top West Hancock's team score of 253, and Forest City had just three golfers and did not have a team total.

Elsbecker triple winner at Cardinal relays

Gracie Elsbecker placed first in three events; Bishop Garrigan won five relays and captured first place at the Cardinal Relays April 16.
The black and gold amassed a total of 161 points during the meet to top the nine-team field with North Union coming home in fifth place with a team total of 70 points.

AHS girls place second at poky

Humboldt just nipped the Algona Bulldogs girls track squad by two points at the Pocahontas Relays April 16. The Wildcats totaled 142 team points to top the red and black's total of 140 points during the meet in Class A.
The Bulldogs won four events as Alexa Chase sprinted to the gold medal in the 100-meter dash in 12.76 while teammate Abbey Holmes took the 400-meter dash with a clocking of 1:03.47.

Bawden blazes to pair of wins at Waukee

Algona junior Samonte Bawden made a statement concerning being one of the top sprinters in the state as he blazed to a pair of victories to highlight the squad's performances at the Waukee Invitational on April 18.

Wykoff leads Algona boys golfers at Spencer Invitational

Facing a field of tough squads, the Algona Bulldogs boys golf team competed in the 27th annual Spencer Invitational Monday, April 15 at the Spencer Golf and Country Club.
The red and black posted a team total of 391 to finish 12th overall as the Spencer Purple squad was the champion with a team score of 315, while Clear Lake was the runner-up with a score of 324.

Steinberger leaps 5'2" in high jump

Hope Steinberger of North Union won the high jump, and West Bend-Mallard won five events to highlight the performances of the two squads at Jim Godfredsen Relays on Monday, April 15.
The Wolverines placed fourth in the team race with 66 points, just ahead of North Union's total of 59. Spirit Lake Park took home the team title with a total of 155.4 points.

AHS is 2nd, BGHS 4th at Hannover Relays

Algona finished second, and Bishop Garrigan was fourth at the annual Hannover Relays girls track meet on Tuesday, April 9. The Bulldogs totaled 163 team points as the Golden Bears amassed 100.5 points as Humboldt won the team title.

Bulldog boys return 6 state qualifiers

A solid nucleus of six returning state qualifiers is back for the Algona Bulldog boys track team as they head into the 2019 campaign. The squad of 33 strong includes a total of 16 lettermen and is made up of nine seniors, 11 juniors, five sophomores and eight freshmen.

AHS girls have 7 state qualifiers back

Seven returning state qualifiers will return to build a solid foundation for the 2019 edition of the Algona Bulldog girls track squad. Co-coaches Tong Uk Yi and Brian Connick will return for their 11th year, and Liz Bradley will be assistant coach.
The red and black placed 39th at the Class 3A state track meet with one point, were regional champions at Nevada with a team total of 129 points and ended up in third place in the North Central Conference with 130 points.

Improvement key for young AHS girls

A pair of letter winners return for the 2019 edition of the Algona Bulldog girls golf squad. The red and black went 20-20 overall last year and were 4-3 in North Central Conference matches – good enough for third place in the league.
The Bulldogs finished in fifth place in the North Central Conference tournament in Mason City, with a team total of 440 and was fifth at the Class 3A regional meet in LeMars, with a team score of 408.

All 6 varsity golfers back for AHS boys

All six players that made up the varsity lineup last season return for the 2019 edition of the Algona Bulldog boys golf squad as the group heads into a new year.
The red and black's team this spring numbers 22 strong, including the six lettermen, and is made up of six seniors, five juniors, nine sophomores and a pair of freshmen.

BGHS girls have many letter winners

A nice group of 15 returning letter winners are back for the 2019 edition of the Bishop Garrigan Golden Bear girls track team. This year's squad of 29 consists of three seniors, seven juniors, nine sophomores and a crew of 10 freshmen.
The black and gold ended up in 39th place at the state meet with six points, was the runner-up at the Class 1A regional meet in Sioux Rapids with 117 points, and finished second in the Top of Iowa Conference meet with 123.3 team points.

Golden Bear boys return 4 lettermen

After placing seventh at the Class 1A state boys golf tournament in 2018 in Marshalltown, this season's edition of the Bishop Garrigan Golden Bears returns a total of four lettermen. The black and gold will be coached by Jared Montag, and he will be assisted by Victor Berte.
The Golden Bears were 32-9 overall last spring and went 4-0 in a much abbreviated Top of Iowa Conference season when a lot of matches were won by Mother Nature.

one state qualifier back for warriors

Just one state qualifier is back for the 2019 edition of the North Union Warrior girls track team. The squad numbers 23 strong with one senior, six juniors, five sophomores and 11 freshmen with 10 letter winners sprinkled among that group of young women.
The Warriors finished in 10th place at the Class 1A regional track meet in Sioux Rapids last spring with 33 points and took seventh in the Top of Iowa Conference meet in Lake Mills with 42 team points.
