Ruth Briggs, age 93, of Algona, passed away on Saturday, Sept. 24, 2016, at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 1, at St. Cecelia Catholic Church in Algona, with Rev. Ed Girres celebrating.
Private family burial will be in East Lawn Cemetery in Algona. Visitation will be 9:30 a.m., until service time Saturday at the church.
Ruth was born on Feb. 21, 1923, to Ben and Rose Hansen in LeMars.
She received her education at St. Catherine’s School in Oyens, Iowa and Remsen High School.
She moved to Whittemore in 1939 and helped her family farm. In 1943, she married Harold Wehrspan at the Air Force Base in Laredo, Texas. They raised four daughters, Barbara, Beverly, Bonnie and Betty.
Harold passed away in November, 1972. Ruth married Dale Briggs in November,1975 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. They resided in Fenton and McAllen, Texas and Algona. Dale passed away in 2004.
Ruth enjoyed golfing, fishing, playing cards, baking and going to the Casino. She loved flowers and cooking and was quick to share her baked goods with anyone.
She volunteered at the hospital in McAllen, Texas and also at the Kossuth Regional Health Center. Ruth loved her family very much.
Left to cherish Ruth’s memory are her daughters, Barb and Larry Riley of Greenfield, Bev and Terry Juhl of Hansell, Bonnie Hartman of Algona and Betty Stark of Franklin, Tenn.; two step children, Dale and Joann Briggs of Algona and Lester Briggs; 14 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; a sister, Rosemary Chambers; and two brothers, Wayne and Vic Hansen. She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; two sisters; four brothers; two son-in-laws and two great grandchildren.
Memorials may be made in Ruth’s name and directed to Hospice of North Iowa.
