Russell Patterson, age 93, of Burt, passed away on Friday, Oct. 7, 2016 at Meadow Lark Hills in Manhattan, Kansas with family by his side. Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 12, with Rev. Dr. Glenn Wilson officiating. Burial will be in the Burt Township Cemetery with military rites conducted by the Burt VFW. Visitation will be 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., Friday, Nov. 11, at the Lentz Funeral Home in Burt.
Russell Eugene Patterson, the son of Charles and Trella (Gardner) Patterson, was born on Nov. 23, 1922 in Burt, Iowa.  He graduated from Burt High School in 1940 and received a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Chemical Engineering from Iowa State University in 1946. Russell served in the U.S. Army during WWII. 
On June 14, 1946, he was married to Ruth Olson in Iowa City. Russell farmed in the Burt area. He was a member and faithful servant of the Burt Presbyterian Church, avid Iowa State University Alumni Association member and Cyclone fan, 50-year plus member of the Burt Lions Club and supporter of VFW and Iowa Farm Bureau. Russell served on the board of the Burt Savings Bank, was an officer with the Burt Co-Op and the Burt Telephone Board of Directors.
Left to cherish Russell’s memory are his children, Rev. Clint Patterson and his wife, Judy of Kasson, Minn., Kathleen Patterson and her husband Charles Montange of Shoreline, Wash., Cynthia Patterson of Central Point, Ore., and Sharon Davis and her husband Greg of Manhattan, Kan.; nine grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Ruth in 2003; brothers, Wendall, Gardner and Warren Patterson; and sisters, Genevieve Perry and Arlene Bowles.
