Rural church lifeline - Facebook Live is connecting congregations

Lead Summary

BURT—In a year dominated by concerns about the COVID-19 coronavirus, parishioners of Presbyterian churches in Burt, Lakota and Lone Rock can tune into Facebook Live each week to listen to worship services.
“We’re reaching a lot more people,” said the Rev. Kent Madison, who handles worship services in Burt Presbyterian Church. Regular in-person worship service brings in on average 40 people. At Lone Rock Presbyterian Church, there are 15-18 people who show up to worship. Facebook Live averages 100 people weekly tuning in for at least a portion of the service. One time there were as many as 200 views.
