Thomas Cogdall II, age 86 of Algona, passed away on Friday, April 21, 2023, at his home. Mass of Christian Burial was held on Wednesday, April 26 at 11 a.m. at Divine Mercy Catholic Parish - St. Cecelia Catholic Church in Algona followed by a celebration of Tom’s 86 years of life, at the Algona VFW from 12 - 2:30 p.m. Burial will take place in Cresco at a later date. Visitation was held on Tuesday, April 25 from 5 until 7 p.m. at Lentz Funeral Home in Algona. Services have been entrusted to Lentz Funeral Home of Algona.
Thomas Edward Cogdall II, son of Thomas and Ella Jean Cogdall was born on Nov. 30, 1936, in Solon. He attended high school in Florida and Cresco, Iowa where he graduated in 1955. Tom enlisted in the United States Army in 1954 and was honorably discharged in 1961. He furthered his education at Mason City Junior College and the University of Iowa. On June 27, 1957, Tom was united in marriage to Deanna Mary Billmyer.
Tom proudly served as an Iowa State Trooper for over 33 years. He was a member of St. Cecelia Catholic Church, the NRA, Masonic Lodge, Kossuth County Gun Club and Single Action Shooting Society.
Left to cherish Tom’s memory are his wife of 65 years, Dee of Algona; sons: Thomas (Betsy) Cogdall III of Milwaukee, Wis., Michael (Kate) Cogdall of Sana Rosa Beach, Fla. and David (Paige) Cogdall of Tucson, Ariz.; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild on the way; brother: Jean Cogdall (Judy) of Sterling, Ill. the care giver: Jen Wiederin and numerous other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents: Thomas and Ella Jean Cogdall and parents-in-law: Ollie Francis and Clara Rose Billmyer.
In lieu of flowers, Tom’s family would like donations to be directed to Bishop Garrigan.
