A funeral Mass for Theresa Thilges, of Algona, was held Tuesday, June 20, 2023, at 10:30 a.m. at Divine Mercy Parish - St. Cecelia Catholic Church in Algona, with Father John Thomas and Deacon William Black officiating. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery in Algona.
Theresa Ann Thilges was born to Arthur and Agnes (Besch) Thilges on July 10, 1938, in West Bend. She grew up on a farm southwest of Algona and attended St. Cecelia School graduating in the class of 1956. Theresa took to the work force working for John Dreesman candling eggs. Then she started to clean house and offices in Algona along with doing babysitting for different people. Theresa cooked for the Kossuth County Care Facility for 10 years. She also helped her parents care for her handicap brother Dale.
Theresa was a member of the St. Cecelia Catholic Church for nearly 85 years. She was a past member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas, served as head of the St. Cecelia Guild and was involved in 4-H in her early years. She enjoyed gardening, her flowers, sewing, quilts, embroidery, crocheting afghans and doilies, along with shopping on QVC.
She moved to Windsor Manor (now Homestead Assisted Living) in April of 2019. She enjoyed her time there making new friends that she called family. She also enjoyed playing Bingo and cards. She became a resident of the Algona Manor in March of 2023. She died there, Friday, June 16 at the age of 84.
In her later years Theresa formed a close bond with her cousins Ruth Brunsen and Darold and Ellen Hofer. They helped her to transition to Windsor Manor and most recently to the Algona Manor.
Theresa was never married. She was a private person. Those who survived her are a brother, Marvin Thilges of Algona; two sisters, Donna Mae Boyd of Fredericksburg and Jeanette Thilges of Maynard; sisters-in-law, Darlene Thilges of Algona and Donna Thilges of Des Moines; special cousins, Ruth Brunsen of Algona and Darold (Ellen) Hofer of Livermore; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Those who went before her are her parents, Arthur and Agnes Thilges; brothers, Kenny Thilges, Jerry (Becky) Thilges, Maurice Thilges and Dale Thilges; a sister-in-law, Mary Jane Thilges; a brother-in-law, Lou Boyd; and one niece, Karla Thilges.
