Steven Mallory, 78 of Algona, passed away Friday, April 4, 2025, at the Good Samaritan Society in Algona. A celebration of Steve’s life will be held on Saturday May 3, 2025. Steven Kenneth Mallory, the son of Estil Kenneth and Dorothy Fern (Erwin) Mallory, was born on May 8, 1946, in Caledonia, Minn. Steve attended Caledonia Schools. On June 24, 1967, he was united in marriage to Vicki Lynn Thilges. Steve was employed as a machinist in Minneapolis and a farm equipment mechanic at Deitering Brothers in Bancroft. After a back injury caused an early retirement in 1994, Steve and Vicki owned and operated several business venture’s including a motel, clothing store and convenience store. Steve and Vicki enjoyed traveling with good friends Pat and Becky Grandgenett. In addition to weekly euchre card games, Steve enjoyed woodworking and hunting and fishing, especially with his son Mark and grandsons, Kael, Austin and Drake. He was an avid coin collector and enjoyed sharing that hobby with his grandchildren and showing them how to search for wheat Pennies.

Left to cherish Steve’s memory are his wife of 57 years: Vicki of Algona; children: Laurie (Tom) Berkland of Davenport, Dawn (Chris) Spriggs of Olathe, Kan., Jeff (Katie) Mallory of Clive and Mark Mallory of Algona; grandchildren: Sydney, Noah, Lily, Ava, Kaytlyn, Alexa, Addison, Kael, Maci, Austin and Drake; sisters: Diane Mallory of Anoka, Minn. and Chris (Jeff) Carlson of Rochester, Mnn.; brother: Brian (Mary) Mallory of Jefferson, Ws. and many nieces and nephews.

Steve was preceded in death by his parents: Estil and Dorothy Mallory; siblings: Enid, Ben, Lynn, Lu, Mary and Kathy; parents-in-law: Ted and Lilian Thilges and brothers-in-law: Harlan Johnsrud and Craig Thilges.

Memorials may be directed to Kossuth Co. Dementia Care, 512 N Finn Drive, Algona, IA 50511 or Hospice of the Heartland, 1515 S Phillips Street, Algona, IA 50511, in honor of Steve.
