Visitation for Stanley E. Berkland was from 4 to 7 p.m. on Jan. 21, 2022, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Fenton. Funeral service was held at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Fenton at 10:30 a.m., Jan. 22, with Pastor Mark Resner officiating.

Stanley E. Berkland will be laid to rest at St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery in Fenton.

Stanley Ellis Berkland, was born on June 11, 1940, to Ernest and Sylvia (Larson) Berkland on their rural farm near Fenton. Stanley died on Jan.  17, at Kossuth Regional Health Center in Algona at the age of 81 years.

He was baptized at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Depew and confirmed there in 1953. Stanley was enrolled in country school through the eighth grade. Then he went to high school in Fenton, graduating in 1958 from Sentral of Fenton. He went to Kansas City, Mo. to mechanic’s school. Stanley worked for Ken Krause’s service station in Fenton. In 1960, he was married to Kathryn Alt on Aug. 21 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Fenton by W.H. Friedrich.

Stanley held many offices as a member of St. John’s. He worked at the Fenton Cooperative Elevator/Stateline for 40 years.

He was an EMT and fireman for 40 years. Upon retiring from Stateline, Stanley worked for his brother Steve and Vaughn Borchardt doing farm work and hauling grain in the semi for farmers.

He enjoyed camping, golfing, snowmobiling, Harley riding and his side by side.

Stanley also enjoyed his family and all the activities that kept him young at heart.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Kathryn; daughter Tania (Eric) Wiltgen, son, Lennis (Donita) Berkland, and son, Steven (Alyssa) Berkland; grandchildren, Levi (Niki) Thompson, Logan (Autumn Kramer) Thompson, Jake Wiltgen and Shelby (Nate Wright) Berkland; great-grandchildren, Kayla and Jax Thompson, Owen Robertson, Summer, Lily, Aiden, Thea and Autumn Thompson; brothers, Steve (Jackie) Berkland of Spirit Lake and Tim Berkland of Fairmont; Sister, Donna Ismir of Fort Collins, Colo.; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Stanley is preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Sylvia (Larsen) Berkland; brother, David Berkland; sisters-in-law, Beverly and Renae. Online condolences may be left for Stanley’s family at HenryOlsonFuneral.com.
