Roy Russell Stougard, the son of Donald and Ella Mae (Topliff) Stougard, was born on Sept. 8, 1944, in Fort Dodge.  He grew up southwest of Gilmore City in a farmhouse belonging to his grandmother Maude Topliff and received his education at Gilmore City Bradgate Community Schools. Roy started work in 1963 at Snap-on Tools as a brake operator and retired 39 years later as a supervisor with lots of changes in between.

July 2, 1966, Roy married Sharon Climpson in a home ceremony and they made their home in Algona. Roy liked to travel and see ancient and different things, motorcycling “it’s not the ride, it’s the journey,” fishing, trapshooting, hunting, his dogs and cats, pot lucks along with grilling and smoking meats, researching new recipes, helping make maple syrup, country western dancing and  bicycling RAGBRAI. There are long and involved stories with all of these things that will touch friends’ memories.

Left to cherish Roy’s memory is his wife of 58 years, Sharon; a sister, Carol (John) Fredricks of Des Moines; a brother, John Stougard of Gilmore City; brother-in-law’s, Paul Jorgenson of Algona and David Climpson of Ankeny; and sister-in-law’s, Terri (Mark) Johnson of Algona and Sandra (Jon) Clapsaddle of Manchester, Tenn.; and a number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Doug Stougard; a sister, Delores Stone; two siblings in infancy; and a brother-in-law, Jay Jorgenson.
