A funeral Mass for Patricia V. “Patty” Jorgensen, was held Monday, March 11, 2024, at 10:30 a.m., at Divine Mercy Parish - Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Ledyard with Father Zach Jones and Deacon William Black officiating. Burial followed in Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery. In Lieu of flowers memorials may be direct to: Suicide Prevention, St Bonaventure Indian Mission School https://www.stbonaventuremission.org and Divine Mercy Parish, in memory of Patty.

Patricia Veronica Jorgensen was born Aug. 7, 1930, in Ledyard the seventh of 10 children of John “Jack” and Ella (Murray) McDonald. Patricia, affectionately known as Patty, grew up in the Ledyard area alongside her five brothers and four sisters.

Patty attended Ledyard High School and graduated in 1948. On Dec. 27, 1952, she was united in marriage to Milton L. Jorgensen at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Ledyard. Together, they built a beautiful life as they lived and farmed in the Swea City and Ledyard area. Patty worked as a dedicated US Postmaster for 46 years, and her contributions were invaluable to their successful farming operation.

Family meant everything to Patty, and she cherished the time spent with her loved ones. She especially loved when her grandchildren came to visit, as she enjoyed spoiling them with love and affection. Patty was known for her delicious homemade chocolate cake and banana cream pie, which were always a hit during family gatherings.

Patty was a lifelong active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Ledyard and was also a member of the Rosary Society. She found solace and strength in her faith throughout her life. Patty loved the simplicity and beauty of farm life and she cherished the peacefulness of living in the countryside.

Patty Jorgensen died Tuesday, March 5, 2024, at St. Luke’s Lutheran Care Center in Blue Earth, Minn. at the age of 93. She had been a resident there since 2020.

She is survived by her six children, Jim (Doreen) Jorgensen of Windom, Minn., John (Lori) Jorgensen of Fairmont, Minn., Bill (Lora) Jorgensen of Lakeville, Minn., Mary (Jeff) Gelhaus of Algona, Margaret (Greg) Brandt of Algona and Don (Rocio) Jorgensen of Ledyard; 14 grandchildren, Andy (Erica) Jorgensen, Aaron (Emily Wegener) Jorgensen, Adam Jorgensen, Megan (fiance Zachary Lauby) Jorgensen, Evan (Brittany McKenney) Jorgensen, Chris Gelhaus, Daniel (fiancé Alex Gartner) Gelhaus, Brittany (Brett) Capesius, Patricia (fiancé Winsten Fenske) Brandt, Desiree Jorgensen, and Dustin Jorgensen; Dani Pacheco, Mary (Patrick) Brau and Andrea Pacheco; and 10 great-grandchildren. Also surviving is a sister, Ellen (James) Kennedy, a sister-in-law, Joann McDonald, and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Milton on Nov. 2, 2013; her son Robert “Bob” Jorgensen, on Dec. 19, 2020; a grandson, Elijah Gelhaus on Oct. 3, 2021; a granddaughter, Jessica Jorgensen-Jarrett on Aug. 24, 2023; five brothers: William, Joseph, Dennis, James and Francis McDonald and three sisters: Mary Ellen McNerney, Doris Drake and Rose Gelhaus, and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
