A funeral Mass for Mick Cruise, 77, of Wesley, was held Feb. 1, at 10:30 a.m. at Divine Mercy Parish - St. Joseph Catholic Church in Wesley. Inurnment was held in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery with military honors conducted. 

Michael John “Mick” Cruise was born July 14, 1944, in Algona, son of John Vincent and Anna Marie (Besch) Cruise. Mick grew up on the family farm near Wesley graduating from Garrigan High School in 1962. He proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1965 to 1967 being stationed in Korea.

Mick was married to Jeannette “Jet” Thomas on April 2, 1977, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. He worked as a mechanic for Bode Service Station and then drove tank-wagon for K & H for 28 years retiring in 2010.

Mick loved to golf and garden and was an avid Iowa Hawkeyes, Minnesota Vikings and Cleveland Indians fan. He was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church singing in the choir, a member of the Andrews American Legion Post # 428 of Wesley where he served as commander and he was on the Wesley Volunteer Fire Department for 19 years serving as chief for seven years.

Michael J. Cruise died Jan. 26, 2022, at Good Samaritan Society Algona, at the age of 77.

He is survived by four children, Michael (Jana) Cruise of Altoona, Nichole (Chris) Swisher of Norwalk, Sarah (Eric) Knapp of Benton, Ark. and Andrea Albertson of Fenton; his grandchildren, Austin (Deanne) West, Ashley West, Kaitlyn and Zachary Swisher, Dawson, Abigail and Ethan Fryar, Halle and Tayla Hoover, and Hayley and Landon Knapp; and one great-grandson, Gage Hager. He is also survived by two brothers and a sister, Edward (Selma) Cruise of Wesley, William (Mary) Cruise of Wesley, and Kathleen (Michael) Barcus of Valley Springs, Calif.; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Jet on Dec. 8, 2001; a granddaughter, Mya Albertson; a son-in-law, Brad Albertson; and a sister, Mary Staudt.
