Marvin “Marv” John Johnson, long-time Whittemore resident received the call home to his Lord and Savior from the Kossuth Regional Health Center on March 23, 2023, he was 72.  Funeral services were held 10:30 a.m. on Monday, March 27 at the First United Methodist Church in Algona with Pastor Cindy Finn officiating. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery in Algona. 

Marvin John Johnson, son of Duane and Laura (Riedel) Johnson, was born on Aug. 20, 1950, in Bancroft. Marv graduated from Ledyard High School in 1968. After graduating from high school, Marv went to Iowa Lakes Community College for mechanics, graduating from there in 1969, and going to work for Kossuth Motors. He went on to work for Hormel Foods for 42 1/2 years before retiring in 2016.  After retiring, Marv went to work for the city of Whittemore until his death.

Marv married the love of his life Nancy Reinsbach, on Sept. 18, 1971. To this union three children were born Jennifer, Eric and Jesse. He loved his family fiercely, was a hands-on dad and an avid supporter of them in everything that they did.

Marv was a volunteer fireman with the Whittemore Fire Department for 30 years, a 50-year member of the First United Methodist Church, helped his good friend Ron Frideres farm every Fall for over 25 years, was a Legion Rider and a Son of the American Legion - Post 425.

Any chance he got Marv loved cheering on his Iowa State Cyclones, the New York Yankees and any sporting event that his kids or grandson was playing. He also looked forward to his annual trip out to Sturgis with his beloved Harley to meet up with old friends.  One thing that he truly treasured was spending time with and going fishing with his grandson.

Left to cherish his memory includes his wife Nancy of 51 years; his three children and one grandson, Jen (Eric) Gogerty of Mason City and their son Neil, Eric (Brian) Ibsen-Johnson of Goffstown, N.H., Jesse Johnson and partner Tony Wiseman of Des Moines; his siblings Carolyn Marshall of Titonka, his twin sister Marlene Boeckholt of Burt and Jerry (Becky) Johnson of Ankeny. He is also survived by his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Judy (Randy) Lien of Algona, Peggy Read of Houston, Texas, Tom (Helen) Reinsbach of Waseca, Minn., Pattie Matheason of Newhall and Bill (Leann) Reinsbach of Spirt Lake, his beloved cat Jakey, who will miss him dearly; along with many nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents Duane and Laura; his mother and father-in-law, Clyde and Lenore Reinsbach; and his brother-in-law John Boeckholt.
