January 2,1962 - May 17, 2022

A funeral Mass for Marla Reding was held May 20, at 10:30 a.m. at Divine Mercy Parish - St. Joseph Catholic Church in Wesley with Father Louis Studer and Father Steven McLoud officiating. Burial was in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Wesley.

Marla Jean Reding was born Jan. 2, 1962, in Algona, daughter of Larry and Joan (Goetz) Grandgenett.  Marla grew up on a farm north of Wesley graduating from Titonka High School in 1980. She then attended DMACC in Ankeny. Marla was married to Jerry Reding on May 12, 1984, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Wesley.

Marla worked a majority of her life in the family business, Reding Electric, alongside husband Jerry and son David. Building the business with the family was one of her proudest accomplishments. She spent many of her “retired” days running errands and delivering parts to worksites all over northern Iowa. Marla was very active in St. Joseph Catholic Church in Wesley, singing in the choir and cleaning the church with her dear friend Carol. Her passion for the church and community radiated through everything she did; being the first person to lend a helping hand to those in need.

There is no question that family was her greatest joy. She spent years coaching and cheering on her kids from the sidelines as she was always their biggest cheerleader. To know Marla was to know she loved her seven grandchildren beyond measure. She never denied an opportunity to snuggle her babies, play with them, give them treats or pass on her knowledge. She loved to spend her days outside mowing the lawn or tending to her garden and making fresh salsa for all to enjoy. Marla’s loving and kind spirit could be felt immediately and she made a lasting impact on everyone she met. She truly built a legacy, alongside Jerry, for her children and grandchildren and will be missed dearly.

Marla passed away May 17, 2022, at Kossuth Regional Healthcare Center in Algona following a courageous battle with breast cancer at the age of 60.

She is survived by husband Jerry of Wesley; three children and seven grandchildren, Kayla (Ben) Schumacher of Champlin, Minn. and their children Cooper, Griffin and Bowden, Cindy (Kyle) Shimp of Urbandale and their children Savannah and Sage, and David (Kristen) Reding of Wesley and their children LJ and Cutler; and her mother, Joan Grandgenett of Wesley. She is also survived by her siblings, Dan (Judy) Grandgenett of Corwith, Ron (Holly) Grandgenett of Orlando, Fla., Tom (Caren) Grandgenett of Merriam, Kan., Alan (Sally) Grandgenett of Wahoo, Neb., and Diane (Bruce) Suntken of Kearney, Neb.; her siblings-in-law, Verne Lee (Judy) Reding of Wesley, Paul (Darla) Reding of Garner, and Denise (Dennis) Dornbier of Adel; and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her father, Larry Grandgenett; and her parents-in-law, June and Verne Reding.
