September 3, 1928 - March 10, 2022

A funeral service for Marian Marty, 93, of Lu Verne, will be held 11 a.m. March 19, at the United Methodist Church in Lu Verne. Visitation will be 9:30 to 11 a.m. at the church prior to the service Saturday. Following the service, committal rites will be conducted at the Lu Verne Cemetery.

Marian Meta Hartwig was born Sept. 3, 1928, in Fort Dodge. She graduated from Fort Dodge High in 1946. Marian was later employed at Fort Dodge Laboratories and in 1957 she married Melvin Marty and moved to the farm near Lu Verne, where she lived the rest of her life.

Proud of her farm wife career, Marian spent long days gardening, cooking and delivering meals to the workers in the fields, while helping raise their four children. Marian was a longtime member of the Lu Verne United Methodist Church where she was active in many of the church groups and organizations.

Marian enjoyed all the visits of her ever-growing family, especially the large gatherings at Christmas and at the annual Lu Verne town celebration where the Marty family paraded antique cars and tractors. In retirement the couple stayed on the Marty family Century Farm and after Melvin’s passing in 2007, it was Marian’s wish to remain in her beloved long-time farm home. She died there peacefully, March 10, 2022.

Marian is survived by her children: son Dennis (Lori) Marty of Lu Verne, son Doug (Sharon) Marty of Algona, daughter Diane (Bill) McIntyre of Fort Dodge and son Duane (Susan) Marty of Scottsdale, Ariz.; 14 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; sister Helen Schachtner of Humboldt; and many nieces and nephews.

Marian was preceded in death by her husband Melvin, parents William and Meta (Haack) Hartwig, brother Karl Hartwig, infant son Marion, brother-in-law Kenneth Marty and daughter-in-law Barbara Marty.
